From paedophile jokes to zoophilia accusations, keep scrolling to check out the worst drama that has surrounded the YouTuber since he rose to fame back in 2008.
Apology
Back in 2020, Shane Dawson uploaded a YouTube video titled Taking Accountability.
Throughout the video, which ran for over 20 minutes, Shane admitted he thought he “should lose everything” and that he has “put so much hate on the internet”.
He apologised for wearing blackface, a form of makeup worn by non-black people to portray a caricature of a black person often for entertainment purposes.
Dawson also apologised for using racial slurs, insulting people with disabilities, making jokes about paedophilia and joking about murdering a woman.
Shane said that “blackface was something he did a lot” and recognised there is “no excuse for it,” although he admitted that he “didn’t actually look into the history of it and why it is so wrong” and “why it made people so upset”.
Paedophile jokes
Elsewhere in the video, Shane apologised for the jokes he made about young children and said: “I would never talk about a child in any way that was inappropriate. That is disgusting. That is gross. It is not something I would ever do. It’s something I did for shock value or because I thought it was funny.”
Shane was referencing a number of paedophile jokes he made throughout his YouTube career, including comments about newborns.
On his Shane and Friends podcast, the YouTuber made a joke about typing the phrase “naked babies” into Google so that he could “pretend he was a paedophile for a second” and understand their mindset.
He then said he typed the phrase into Google and called the disturbing images “sexy” before adding that he “was kidding”.
Dawson has also previously claimed that he doesn’t understand why paedophilia isn’t legal as there is a fetish for everything, which left his friends cringing and urging him to stop talking about the subject.
Zoophilia comments
On a podcast back in 2015, Shane made a shocking comment about his pet cat and was forced to apologise when the clip resurfaced back in 2019.
Dawson claimed that he had done “terrible things” to the animal and described his actions.
Shane said that when he was 19, he laid her cat down on her back, simulated having sex and ejaculated on her.
Years later, Shane took to Twitter to said he “didn’t f*ck his cat” and has “never done anything weird with his cats”.
He claimed “the story was fake and based on a dumb awful sketch idea he had years ago”.
Willow Smith controversy
In another offensive clip, Dawson shared a video of himself pretending to masturbate over a picture of Willow Smith.
Shane stood underneath a poster of Willow, which had been put up to promote her single Whip Your Hair Back and Forth.
The song was released back in 2010 – when Smith was just 11-years-old.
Dawson made the action as he recited the single’s title while looking at Willow’s picture, an obviously disturbing sight to many but a hilarious gag to Shane.
Willow’s mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her brother, Jaden Smith, slammed the YouTuber for his shocking actions.
The video resurfaced ten years later and the famous family banded together to call Shane out.
Jada tweeted that she was “done with his excuses” while Jaden wrote: “You sexualising an 11-year-old who happens to be my sister…is the furthest thing from funny and not ok in the slightest bit.”
