BBC Breakfast presenter missing from show as programme pulled off channel in shake-up

Charlie Stayt was missing from the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast.

The 61-year-old presenter usually appears on the famous red sofa Thursdays through to Saturday with co-star Naga Munchetty.

However, he was replaced by Ben Thompson during Thursday’s (July 20) episode.

While it’s not clear why he was missing from the show, it wasn’t the only shake-up of the morning.

The programme usually airs from 6am until 9.15am on BBC One every weekday but Naga and stand-in presenter Ben asked viewers to switch over to BBC Two at 7.30am as the show was replaced by Fifa Women’s World Cup 2023.

Naga and Ben carried on hosting the show as usual on BBC Two.

Charlie has been sharing the sofa with Naga for almost 10 years.

However, their salaries are very different.

Last week, the broadcaster revealed its annual star salaries report for 2022-23.

A new BBC report states that Naga is paid between £335,000 and £339,000 each year, while co-star Charlie currently takes home between £190,000 and £194,999.

Naga earns a higher wage because of her additional work hosting Radio 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty Programme.

The TV star has actually had a pay decrease this year as she was previously earning £365,000 and £369,999 between 2021 and 2022.

It has not been confirmed whether Charlie’s current salary represents a pay increase or decrease.

The salaries of Naga and Charlie’s BBC Breakfast colleagues Sally Nugent, Jon Kay and Tina Daheley were also released in the report.

Sally, who works solely for BBC Breakfast is earning between £178,000 and £184,999 per year and Jon, who acts as the show’s news correspondent, is banking in the region of £185,000 and £189,999.

Tina is earning between £240,000 and £244,999.

Her higher salary factors in her various gigs for the BBC.

As well as appearing on the Breakfast programme, the 42-year-old broadcaster provides coverage on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show and presents BBC One News Bulletins.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6am
