Celebrity MasterChef fans fuming as Black Eyed Peas star cooks simple baked potato

Fans of BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef have been left outraged after a contestant served a jacket potato to judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

Black Eyed Peas member APL.DE.AP came up with the simple dish after he was tasked with cooking something that made goats’ cheese the main “star”.

APL.DE.APP – whose real name Allan Pineda Lindo – initially thought the cheese was a block of butter as he shared his confusion with the judges and his fellow contestants.

But once realising his mistake, he then proceeded to bake a potato and fill it with the cheese, bacon and mushroom.

Despite the simplicity of his dish, APL received positive feedback from Gregg and John and went through to the next round of the competition.

However, fans at home thought it was unfair that the American rapper got to see another day in the kitchen and shared their grievances online.

Heading over to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: “A baked potato? He’s cooked a baked potato?”

Another said: “How hem got through after making a jacket potato is beyond me lol.”

While others seemed equally annoyed that Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell was sent home near the end of the show.

One viewer fumed: “Dianne out but Apl still in with a dry jacket potato.”

And another furious spectator echoed: “What? Dianne goes… ridiculous Apl cooked a baked potato in the first round.”

Sharing their feedback on the baked potato, Gregg said: “Your choice of the ingredients is absolutely sound.

“That sticky goats’ cheese is tangy, it’s sour and then with salty bacon, it’s a marriage made in heaven.”

An impressed John then added: “What you’ve got is great textures as well as great flavour.

“The outside, that skin you’ve got from the potato is really crispy and it’s slightly salty too, which is good,” he explained while tucking in.

He continued: “On top of that you’ve got crispy bacon, in between that is fluffy potato and that creaminess of the cheese. And the mushrooms have got a slight bit of crunch to them. I like it a lot.”

In the second round APL, who is partially blind, managed to rustle up a dish that was more complex and served the judges chicken and potato adobo with rice and spring onion garnish.

This was then followed by churros and a chocolate and coffee dip for dessert.
