Mrs Brown’s Boys was blasted by viewers when it returned to to screens on Friday (8 September) night for the first time in ten years.
For over 10 years, the comedy series created by Brendan O’Carroll has been a consistent feature ofthe BBC’s Christmas television line-up.
But the controversial comedy got a frosty reception when it returned to screens as viewers branded it “drivel”.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one critic penned: “It’s a sad day for the human race today, a new season of Mrs Brown’s Boys starts tonight.”
Another added: “The whole nation absolutely does NOT adore Mrs Brown’s Boys. I consider it drivel and totally unfunny.”
A third person wrote: “Just going to put it out there, Mrs Brown’s boys is absolute horse dung. I never understood it. It’s the worst thing to come out of Ireland since Jedward.”
A fourth joked: “‘A cost of living crisis, crumbling schools, uncontrolled illegal migration, an escaped prisoner on the loose, a heatwave, and now a new series of Mrs Brown’s Boys. This country has suffered enough!”
Someone else suggested: “BBC should offer a helpline for those affected by Mrs Brown’s Boys.”
However, some fans were pleased that the sitcom had returned with one person writing: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled that there is going to be a brand new series of Mrs Brown’s Boys.
“I made sure that I put it into my diary and then made sure that I put it on record so that I could watch it again. I’m so excited, and I can’t wait.”
Another excitedly said: “Thanks everyone for the new episodes so glad that you’re back. Fighting the temptation to binge them all on iPlayer and I think temptation will win. Thanks again.”
Last month, the BBC announced that the series would return for four more episodes.
This follows the sitcom summer touring the UK with the stage show Mrs. Brown Rides Again.
