Home and Away Rose star’s response to on-screen father in first meeting four years ago

Home and Away star Kirsty Marillier had a specific request after meeting her on-screen father four years ago.

The actress made her first appearance as Rose Delaney in 2022 and in recent episodes, the character has been on the hunt for her biological father. While her half-brother Xander (Luke Van Os) was completely against the idea, Rose’s boyfriend Mali encouraged her to act and search for her father if it’s what she wanted.

Certain a man named Samuel is her father, Rose told Mali that she’s written him a letter and dropped it at his house during Wednesday’s episode (October 11). The letter clearly fell into the right hands as Samuel called Rose shortly afterwards and explained he wanted to meet his daughter.

Rose came face to face with her father, played by Bert LaBonte, for the first time during Thursday’s (October 10) episode, but this isn’t the first time Kirsty has crossed paths with the actor. In 2019, Kirsty watched the Aussie star in a stage production and explained she spoke to him afterwards.

“I saw him [Bert] on stage in a production in Melbourne a few years ago and he was so terrific in it,” the star told Stuff. “I went up to him afterwards and said, ‘I want you to play my dad in something’.”

It was a literal dream come true for Kirsty as she added: “That was in 2019. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I have to act with him in something and I need to play his daughter’, and now I have.”

Shedding light on Rose’s heritage, the actress continued: “Rose is very disconnected from her African heritage and I think that this really does spark a journey for her. It opened something up that she wasn’t aware that she needed and I think that can always be quite discombobulating for a person.

She has a really strong sense of self but while she was part of a really strong, happy family unit, there was always one thing that she didn’t know about herself – the identity of her biological father.” Kirsty discussed the emotions that come with Rose’s journey of meeting Samuel.

She went on: “I think that can be painful. It can be sharp, it can be saddening, it can bring up anger. There’s so many emotions that it can bring up in someone.

It could bring up a lot of rage or a lot of sadness. It could bring up both at once. It can also bring joy.”
