A huge Love Actually star would be missing from the film if it was shot today.
Richard Curtis’ cult-classic Christmas flick has been around for 20 years as of today (November 14) and everyone remembers the scene where Prime Minister Hugh Grant dances around to Girls Aloud in Number 10. But it seems Hugh wouldn’t be cast as the PM if the film was re-made.
The film’s casting director, Fiona Weir, has revealed that she’d like to cast a female PM if she had to do it all over again. She told Metro: “The first thing is I would cast a female prime minister. ‘I think if we were doing it today, Richard would write it very differently. 20 years on, it’s a different country, it’s a different world, a lot has changed.

“So, I think it will be a very different script, you can’t really sort of transpose actors on it. But the one thing I can declare is that we would definitely, definitely cast a female prime minister.
It seems she has an actress in mind, too. She added: “Adjoa Andoh would be brilliant. I think she’d be wonderful.”
Richard has admitted he regrets including fat jokes in the film and recognises it has a lack of diversity. He told his daughter Scarlett: “I remember how shocked I was five years ago when Scarlett said to me, ‘You can never use the word fat again.’ And, wow, you were right.

“In my generation, calling someone ‘chubby’. in Love Actually, there are endless jokes about that. I think I was behind the curve and those jokes aren’t any longer funny. I don’t feel I was malicious at the time but I feel I was unobservant and not as clever as I should have been.”
Love Actually was criticised for comments made about Martine McCutcheon’s character Natalie in the film, who falls in love with Hugh Grant’s PM. Her character is dsecribed as “plumpy” with “Huge thighs”.
Fiona added: “There’s a certain comment about Martine McCutcheon’s physicality which Richard himself would say, he’d wished that wasn’t in there. It was something that he felt was humorous at the time, but now realizes it’s not appropriate. I think that is obviously the case.”
