The Chase star Shaun Wallace has hit ack at fans who have demanded he should be “sacked” from the beloved quiz show.

During Tuesday’s visit (January 16) to the ITV studios, Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary welcomed viewers back for another jam-packed show. The dynamic duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines and welcomed a series of star-studded guests onto the daytime show.

Amongst them was The Dark Destroyer and his co-star Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty as they opened up about what it is like to work on the afternoon game show. The professional quiz player, 63, revealed what his weak spot is in his general knowledge following the launch of the new series of Beat The Chasers.

“If you’ve never watched The Simpson like I’ve never watched The Simpsons, you’re not going to know.” Anne quickly pointed out: “That’s not really a soap question” as Josie and Dermot chuckled beside her.

Shaun replied: “Soaps, animation, whatever. Same thing to me. I got such backlash from social media saying ‘You should be sacked, you’re rubbish’, but questions are only easy if you know the answers.”

Anne went on to share how the team with the constant backlash they receive from competitive fans online. She explained: “We all get those backlashes and we all just ignore them.”

It comes after Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis broke his silence after his “bad few minutes” on the game show triggered a flurry of comments.

Last week, the quizzer unfortunately had a more difficult game than usual, and eagle-eyed viewers certainly spotted it. It didn’t take long before they flooded to the social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – to question his performance online.

Some said he’d had “a mare” and that it had been “a very bad day at the office” for him. Meanwhile, others went further, with one saying it was an “appalling” performance and another sniping that he’d had “a meltdown”. “What was that?!” posted someone else.

“It got away from me and I started to miss the clues in the question. It happens, we all have bad days.” Darragh went on: “I don’t mind, but maybe consider what you post online about people who are in the public eye, it can be damaging.”

The Chase airs on weekdays on ITV1 from 5pm or catch up on ITVX.
