Dancing on Ice’s Eddie The Eagle admits show is ‘difficult’ but he’s happy to be joke

Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards admits he’s happy to be the joke act on Dancing on Ice.

The winter Olympics legend, 60, reckons it’s more important to be entertaining than a good skater. And he is hoping that will help him get enough votes from viewers to stay on the show.

He said: “I want to bring out the fun side and be as jokey as I possibly can. It’s a TV show and it’s entertainment. “People want to be entertained and I’m quite happy to jump in and do what needs to be done and dress in a way that I need to be dressed.

“I’ll do anything, wear anything and perform how I want to. I always like to be on the fun side and have a joke.
“You want to be as entertaining as possible.

“If it’s a great routine, but it’s boring, will that be good? It might be better to do a less good routine that’s entertaining.” Eddie is doing his best to learn to skate because he also wants to impress the judges.

He said: “Skating is brilliant and I love it and it’s very difficult to do, but I want to have lots of fun while I’m doing it. I still want to be technically good because you’ve got to impress Chris Dean and Jayne Torvill.”

Eddie is pushing himself to his limits in training with pro partner Vicky Ogden. The star has suffered some knocks and bruises because it is so tough.

He said: “I’ve fallen over a few times. But if you’re not falling over then you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. So far, I haven’t had anything too serious. I’m very pleased that I’m still in one piece.”
