Vicky Pattison has opened up on the “stressful” filming of Comic Relief challenge Snow Going Back.
The former Geordie Shore star, 35, has revealed that she struggled in “darker moments”. She trekked across the Arctic Circle with fellow celebrities Sara Davies, Alex Scott and Laura Whitmore for Red Nose Day earlier this month. Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine to chat about the mission on Thursday, Vicky fought back tears as she recalled the tougher parts of the trip.
“In the some darker moments, it was hard,” she told host Lorraine Kelly. “It was cold and physically difficult. Just a really arduous thing we took on and I kind of retreat into myself sometimes and I had to think about the reasons I was doing it.”

Speaking about people living in poverty who’ll benefit from Comic Relief fundraising, Vicky began to tear up. “It’s 2024 and the need for food banks has never been greater and you’ve got these incredible women who are having to frequent them because they’re making decisions between turning on their heating and feeding their kids,” she said with tears in her eyes, reports OK!

Vicky also revealed that she suffered with symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) when her period coincided with the trip. PMDD is often referred to as severe pre-menstrual syndrome, with those affected dealing with acute irritability, depression or anxiety around their period.

Vicky described her condition as “PMS on steroids,” explaining: “PMS is a sliding scale and this is right towards the real spicy end. Very dark thoughts, very fatigued, anxiety, all the rest of it.” She also shared her experience of being on her period while in the Arctic. She continued: “I thought, ‘I only get this fog for around a week. I’ll be fine. There’s no chance it’s gonna fall on me Arctic.’ I got my period in the Arctic. The joys of being a woman!”
Talking about the support she received from her fellow celebrities, meanwhile, Vicky added: “I think when you are that cold, that tired, that stressed, there are just no secrets at all. The Lasses knew all about my struggles, and they were so supportive, so kind – you just can’t be miserable around Sara Davies.”

In the past, Vicky has spoken openly about her diagnosis, revealing that she’s felt “completely out of control” at times. “It’s made me feel like I was going insane – I just do not recognise myself for 2 weeks of the month and ever so gradually- that time frame is becoming longer- and sometimes, when I’m proper in the midst of this and totally consumed by my own dark thoughts I convince myself that I’m never going to get better.. that these feelings and thoughts aren’t temporary,” she previously wrote on Instagram. “That this is who I am now. And that terrifies me.”
In the show, Snow Going Back: Comic Relief vs. The Arctic, Vicky, Sara, Alex and Laura brave -20 degree temperatures in the Arctic wilderness for a good cause. Guided by experienced explorer Torbjrn Ness, they learned to ride fat wheel bikes and snowshoe across the snowy landscape. Their adventure, which began last week, will be broadcast during the Red Nose Day telethon on March 15.
