Coleen Nolan spent a whopping amount on cigarettes after smoking 30-a-day for 40 years before calling it quits 12 weeks ago.
The Loose Women star, 59, admitted she used to smoke 30 cigarettes a day, meaning she was spending £14,000 a year on cigs, adding up to more than £500,000. Coleen said she used to think it was “cool” to smoke but now believes it’s “antisocial”.
Speaking in support of National No Smoking Day, she told The Sun: “I could have taken my whole family on a fantastic first class holiday for that. Or bought a car. It’s ridiculous.

“Back in the day when I started it was classed as really cool but no, it’s actually really antisocial.” She added: “Basically, you may as well take that £20 a day or whatever it is and just set fire to it, as that is effectively what you are doing and killing yourself at the same time.”
The news comes after Coleen revealed how a severe chest infection left her fearing she would die before she finally decided to kick her 40-year smoking habit. The singer said she became so unwell she was left “gasping for air” and “struggling to breathe.”
Coleen spoke up her experience while appearing on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday (March 13). Talking to presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, the Loose Woman said she was left fearing the worst following her panic attack.
In 2020, during an on-air discussion with her co-star Denise Welch, Coleen confessed that she didn’t feel prepared yet to stop smoking. But Denise hit back and urged her to quit.
Denise said that she wanted to ban the “nasty” habit outdoors, which led to a fierce discussion. At that time, Denise admitted that after she quit smoking seven years ago, she now feels sick whenever she walks past a group of smokers.
When asked about whether she believed it was a good idea to ban smoking outdoors, Coleen expressed: “To have taken that away from me [especially] yesterday, as a smoker, that would just finish me off. If you don’t like it move away. And the amount of people when I say ‘I’m going for a fag’ and they say ‘I’ll come too…'”
However, Denise disagreed and said: “I smoked for years and gave up seven years ago. And now if I just walk past a group of people smoking the smell makes me feel sick.”
She added: “I think it’s horrible and Coleen this is your opportunity now, to stop. You have been saying it for years and you have to get your head around it and you have to stop.”
