Star Trek fans can’t believe William Shatner’s real age after TV appearance

Star Trek fans couldn’t believe William Shatner’s real age as he made a TV appearance on the Today show.

The star made his acting debut way back in 1951 – 73 years ago – in a black and white film called The Butler’s Night Off, in which he played an unnamed crook. It wasn’t until 1966 that he first appeared as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series, appearing in 79 episodes total.

Shatner became the oldest man to go to space in 2021, and based on his full head of hair and mere scattering of lines around his face, fans were baffled to find out exactly how old the star is. But he recently celebrated his 93rd birthday on March 22.

Fans are confessing they thought the star was only in his 60s or 70s based on his appearance, with one writing on X: “I nearly Shatner myself when I found out his age!” While another echoed: “Shatner turns 93 in a couple days. He still looks great. I can only hope to be as active at his age.”

Someone else said of the Canadian star: “William Shatner is incredible at 93. I’d vote for him for President.” As another fan echoed: “Just learned William Shatner will be 93 YEARS OLD THIS WEEK!!! Captain has aged quite gracefully…”

Asked by The Guardian to share how he remains looking quite so ageless, Bill said: “I don’t have any secret potions. It must be genetic. I ride a lot of horses and I’m into the bewilderment of the world, so I open my heart and head into the curiosity of how things work.”

The star went on: “I’m a competitive rider in an equine skill called reining. I don’t know if you know it, but it’s very athletic and cowboyish.” And asked what he wished he’d known aged 20, he said: “I’m glad I didn’t know because what you know at 90 is: take it easy, nothing matters in the end, what goes up must come down. If I’d known that at 20, I wouldn’t have done anything!”

Shatner, who is about to release a documentary about his life and legacy, confessed he “doesn’t have long left to live” in a 2023 interview, telling Variety: “I’ve turned down a lot of offers to do documentaries before. But I don’t have long to live.

“Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor. I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die.”
