Horror movie fans left ‘breathless’ by ‘terrifying’ film starring Lily-Rose Depp

Horror buffs have described how the trailer for Lily-Rose Depp’s upcoming movie left them “terrified” and “breathless”.

CinemanCon attendees in Las Vegas were treated to a first showing of a preview of Nosferatu. Introducing the footage, Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said of the Robert Eggers production: “This ain’t your father’s Nosferatu,” before promising it will give a “new meaning to the term, Christmas feast, when we open on December 25”.

The film, which is a reworking of a silent German 1922 flick of the same name, is described as “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”

Footage shows terror being bestowed upon a village as a hysterical woman screams “he’s coming!” as she seemingly falls into a trance.

She continues, to Professor Von Franz (played by Willem Dafoe): “My dreams grow darker. Does evil come from within us, or from beyond?” Now, those lucky enough to have witnessed the trailer have responded on X (formerly Twitter) to the spooky scenes, which also star James Bond candidate, Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

“Give me NOSFERATU now!” declared one X user. “The terrifying and eerily beautiful trailer at CinemaCon featured blood gushing from necks, Lily-Rose Depp praying and a hand reaches out to grab her neck, [and] Bill Skarsgård hunching over in a bat-like crouch as the vampire.”

Another penned: “There’s a shot in the Nosferatu trailer that left me both breathless and always jumping up and down with joy. Robert Eggers is the perfect person to reimagine this iconic gothic story of obsession. Have to shout out Lily-Rose Depp in the Nosferatu trailer. An ICONIC, visceral, terrifying, consuming performance cementing her in horror history is coming #CinemaCon.”

And a third added: “Freaking terrifying and the use of sound design is insanely menacing as well!”

After filming wrapped last year, Dafoe told Collider: “I just love working with Robert Eggers. I had a wonderful time. I saw The Witch, and I liked it so much, I arranged a meeting with him. We liked each other. Then I did The Lighthouse, which was a fantastic experience, and I think it’s a very good movie.

“Then I did a little part in The Northman, which I really enjoyed, and now I get to do this. So I’m just happy to be back with him. It’s Nosferatu, his version of Nosferatu. I’m just excited to be with him again. He’s a great filmmaker, and I enjoy his company.”
