BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri has been caught off guard on-air again.
The newsreader had been presenting at the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday (May 11) and hadn’t realised that the cameras were already rolling. The BBC star can be seen playing about with her hair sheepishly while holding a large microphone.
A stylist tries to restyle her locks but Maryam panics and gestures for the person to stop, realising they were in fact live on-air. She proceeded to talk about the Netherlands being disqualified from he competition.

Maryam was previously forced to apologise when she made a rude gesture at the start of a news bulletin. not realising she was live on air already. At the time, footage of the TV star flipping the bird had gone viral.
The BBC star hadn’t realised she was live as she stuck her middle finger up and then rallied off the headline. After a few seconds had passed, she pulled her hand away realising that she’d been on-air before carrying on as if nothing had happened.
Returning to her more serious news tone, Maryam says: “Live from London, this is BBC News.” The BBC presenter did not get away with the on-air blunder and did offer up viewers an apology following for her mistake.
On X – formerly known as Twitter – she penned: “Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.
She added: “I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1, I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.
“It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone.”
Maryam finished up with: I wasn’t ‘flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates.”
At the time, there had been a mixed bag on reactions over the rude gesture. Some fans believed it to be the most hilarious thing on TV, while others were not impressed at all.
One person said: “This isn’t satire, an actual BBC News presenter got caught giving the middle finger live. Maryam Moshiri summing up the professionalism currently at the BBC.” While another joked: “BBC News presenter gives viewers the middle finger. Haha! They really do hate us.”
