Eamonn Holmes admitted he wanted ‘local girl’ if anything happened to Ruth Langsford

Eamonn Holmes said he would marry a “local girl” if he moved back home to Belfast in a resurfaced clip.

The 64-year-old left the nation stunned last week after it was revealed that he and wife of 14 years Ruth Langsford were filing for divorce. Since the news broke, fans have been trying to spot the signs that things weren’t going smoothly in the relationship.

One of the signs happens to be a video that recently circulated online with Eamonn saying he longed to move back to Northern Ireland. But he confessed Ruth wouldn’t want to leave.

Talking to NVTV’s Conversations With Gerry Kelly in November, he said: “Ruth wouldn’t come back to Northern Ireland. Yes, because of her family and also because she’s English and she sees life around London and things, whereas I can’t stand London. So we have a different outlook on things like that.”

He then added: “Maybe Ruth will be run over by a bus or something, who knows? If I get another wife I might come back, get a local girl. That’s awful talking about Ruth being run over by a bus, that’s awful.”

The star then spoke about his health issues. In 2016, Eamonn underwent a double-hip replacement operation lasting three-and-a-quarter hours after living with acute pain for a number of years.

Eamonn then had back surgery last year to help relieve some of his symptoms but has been left using a wheelchair after the operation went “wrong”.

The former This Morning presenter said: “You couldn’t make it up. It’s as if somebody is up there playing with my life.

“In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back, which has gone wrong, which has confined me to A wheelchair. I have had my mother dying, and I couldn’t go to her funeral.’

Presenter Gerry asked Eamonn if he would always be “confined to his wheelchair”, to which he replied: “I would like to think that at some stage in my life, I will get out of the wheelchair. But it is strange that you know a year’s passed, and you think, I’ve tried every treatment, believe me, and you go, ‘maybe I’ll never get out of this wheelchair.’ That’s a harsh reality to face.”
