Moira Stuart red-faced and had to walk ‘cross-legged’ in knickers mishap at BBC studios

Moira Stuart has shared an embarrassing incident from the early days of her career at the BBC.

The veteran broadcaster, who made history as the UK’s first female African-Caribbean newsreader, revealed in a recent interview that she once arrived at work without her underwear.

Moira told Woman and Home: “When I started broadcasting for BBC Radio in 1973, I was doing all kinds of shift work – morning, noon and night.

“One morning, I rushed into work at dawn and, halfway there, I realised I was without my knickers! I walked cross-legged all day! ”

Despite her long career, it seems Moira still isn’t a morning person, admitting she’s a “silent ghost” until she’s had her coffee. Away from work, she enjoys wearing “loose harem pants” and watching Judge Judy and true crime shows.

The revelation comes after Moira reportedly felt unwell during Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon’s birthday celebration earlier this year.

It was said that paramedics rushed to the aid of Moira, but she shrugged it off, saying “she was fine” and had only suffered “a funny turn”, as spilled to The Sun by a source.

TV and radio icon Moira, who was famed for her voice across the airwaves for more than 30 years and who once graced Classic FM, hung up her BBC boots in 2007, reports the Express.

A former newsreader for The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Moira has landed nods for her contributions to broadcasting, bagging an OBE in 2001, followed by a CBE in 2022.

In a festive treat, Moira set the dance floor ablaze during Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas special in 2021, performing a sizzling salsa with Aljaž Škorjanec to the tune of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.
