A couple that were due to tie the knot on Channel 4 ‘s Married at First Sight have now got married for real, four years after their first wedding was cancelled.
Paul and Ally Todd were both set to appear on the dating show, which sees two complete strangers meet at the altar. The newlywed couple then have time to work on their relationship, with the option to split off from each other at various points.
Paul, 36, and Ally, 39, were set to get hitched on the show’s fifth series – however, things ended up not panning out the way they hoped for. Their big day was due to take place on March 22, 2020 – just one day before the UK went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This came as a huge shock to both parties, as they had gone through a gruelling process, including psychological evaluations and six weeks of filming prior to their walking down the aisle. The entire pre-wedding period took five months, but was cancelled in the blink of an eye.
Both Ally and Paul admitted they were devastated at the thought of never meeting their potential soulmate. Speaking to OK!, Ally explained that the entire debacle left the pair nervous.
“We were all fearful about Covid at the time and, on top of that, anxious about marrying a stranger – this chosen person for you; your perfect match,” she said. “Then all of a sudden, it’s not happening. It was emotional.”
However, the couple were determined to meet and unbeknownst to the other person, both individually asked Channel 4 to set the pair up on a date over Skype. And it seems love was in the air, as after a 90-minute video call, the duo were head over heels for each other.
With the couple now officially dating and no longer strangers, Channel 4 opted to drop the pair from the series, much to the relief of the lovebirds. Ally herself said that she was happy that she would not make it onto the TV, admitting she was “really worried about online” from the show.
The pair met in person when Ally boldly moved in with Paul at the height of the first lockdown. Seven months afterwards, in late October 2020, it was revealed that the couple were having a baby, which she described as “a happy blessing”.
Ally and Paul became proud parents when daughter Penelope was welcomed into the world in July 2021. The pair became the first MAFS UK-related couple to have a child.
Now, four years after meeting online thanks to Married at First Sight, the couple tied the knot officially at a lavish ceremony on June 8 at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion. The couple did not forget Channel 4 at their event, as Paul and Ally invited the experts that matched them up initially before the show was cancelled.
“The experts are a huge support in our life and that’s why we invited them all to the wedding,” Ally explained. “Without them, we wouldn’t have our daughter, or our love.”
