Countryfile viewers sickened as BBC host filmed ‘playing with poo’ in grim segment

Countryfile viewers recoiled in horror after presenter Joe Crowley ‘played with poo’ on the show.

The beloved BBC nature programme is regularly full of weird and wonderful stories that highlight the beauty of our ecosystem. However, the latest episode of the show left fans disgusted as host Crowley got stuck into some cow manure.

In the latest instalment of the show that aired on Sunday (July 21), Joe visited Chew Valley to look into a new initiative in farming and what the effect was on the local residents. Viewers were delighted to see Joe return to the show as he spoke to people about the need to find better farming practices.

However, things got very up close and personal for the animals when Joe visited a dairy farm that uses grazing as a method of turning soil. The method sees minimal disturbance to habitats and helps to conserve nature while still providing for the demand for products.

But as the episode progressed, fans of the show were left horrified when Joe rolled up his sleeves and looked into cow manure. The bizarre segment came as the host was looking to dung beetles and the positive impact they have on local ecosystems.

Speaking to Patrick Hancock, an ecologist, Joe combed his way through heaps of cow dung, joking with his partner: “There’s definitely a herby content.” But fans of the show were not the biggest fans of the segment as they rushed to social media to complain.

“Playing with poo?!” one livid viewer fumed. A second user admitted: “I quite like Countryfile but could do without seeing graphic film of two grown men rummaging through dung while I’m having my tea ffs.”

Similarly, a third account added: “You need to go wash your hands, Joe!” It comes as the final Countryfile ahead of two weeks of sporting glory as the Olympics get underway on Friday (July 26) in the French capital, Paris.

However, some fans were left wanting more when the BBC released its broadcasting schedule for the week, only to find that the Olympics would not be featuring heavily on its channels, instead reverting to its usual programmes. Countryfile, a staple on the BBC listings, was not cancelled for the week and instead moved to an earlier timeslot.

The show will now air on Sunday evening at 5:10pm for its new temporary home for the next fortnight. However, some fans were left bemused at the BBC’s decision to even air the show at all when the Olympics have only just kicked off.
