Inbetweeners icon James Buckley’s net worth as he earns £10k week in unusual way

Inbetweeners legend James Buckley’s net worth has been uncovered – a decade after the show aired.

The actor, who is celebrating his 37th birthday today (August 14), first shot to fame back in 2008 when he starred in the Channel 4 sitcom, playing the sexaholic Jay Cartwright. His brash and bold approach to comedy and racy antics earned him a reputation, as Jay did everything he could to bed girls he saw.

But more than a decade after the last instalment of the show, James is still able to rake in thousands of pounds for himself. While his acting career is still in good stead, he has managed to open up a new way of earning money that is driving his cash home.

It has been revealed that the loveable James is bringing in a total of £10k a week thanks to his various incomes. Much of this has been attributed to his new gig at Cameo, where he records personalised video messages to his fans in exchange for money.

James first joined Cameo back in March 2020, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. His popularity on the app skyrocketed and in 2022, he became the first celebrity not from the United States to make $1million (£930k) from the website.

Figures released by The Sun back in August 2023 showed that fans have been showering him in money, bringing in a total of £1.6million over the course of two years. He went on to explain his method for recording the clips, including how much he charges for each greeting.

Speaking to Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews on his Big Fish podcast, James said that in total, he has recorded more than “40,000 clips”, each being for a total of £40 a pop. He admitted that he had initial worries about joining the site, unsure on whether anyone would want his shoutouts.

“I kept saying ‘This is going to be really, really embarrassing – my tiny fragile ego. I’m not the most confident person, this is going to send me to dark places,'” he confessed.

“‘I’m going to sign up for this thing and nobody is going to want a video from me’, and it turned out everyone did!” he exclaimed. But he insisted that he would not overcharge himself, so put his tariff at £40 because he “didn’t want to take the p**s out of people”.

He explained the benefits of Cameo on his net worth: “It was a godsend financially. But I never wanted to take the piss. I’m in the business of making people happy – I don’t want to rip people off.”

James continues to appear in movies and TV shows to top up his salary

Speaking about his Cameos, the platform’s founder Martin Blencowe said that James is serious about his love for giving fans personalised messages, sending off a total of 37 different messages a day in 2021. He added that thanks to the site, James now has “financial freedom” and is now more than happy to explore other avenues in his career without the fear of being rendered bankrupt.
