Jermaine Jenas mystery texts and ‘inappropriate behaviour’ led to BBC sacking

More details behind Jermaine Jenas’ BBC sacking have been released.

BBC News reported: “BBC News understands his contract was terminated earlier this week, because of alleged issues relating to workplace behaviour. It followed allegations involving digital communications such as texts, which were raised with the corporation a few weeks ago.”

The former England player was a regular on the BBC, including as a presenter for The One Show, but he has since been relieved of his position. In a statement released today (22 August), a spokesperson for the BBC said: “We can confirm that he [Jenas] is no longer part of our presenting line up.”

Before his sacking, Jenas had a long running career at the BBC working on Match of the Day, with whispers that he would be Gary Lineker’s successor. According to reports, Jermaine landed a new job soon after the announcement was made.

Jenas will reportedly be working for talkSPORT alongside ex-Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant for the show Drive. He has recently been trying his hand at Formula E and spoke about his venture on the That Peter Crouch Podcast.

He confessed: “I always loved Formula One and this particular job came about because FE is a brand-new sport, it’s only nine or ten years old. It’s a sport that revolves around sustainability and the excitement as well. When they asked me to do it, I was like, ‘Look I’ve never seen this racing before. As much as I love F1, I’m going to have to do a lot of research and work into FE.'”

“They were like, ‘That’s what we want. It’s a brand-new sport, no one knows enough about it to enjoy it so you can take them on that journey.’ Once that pressure was off and they were telling me some of the venues I would be going to… Mexico, Sao Paulo, Monaco, Tokyo, these sounded like decent places to go.”

The 41-year-old TV presenter became a prominent media figure after sustaining an injury during his football career. While in recovery, Jenas moved into presenting mainly for MOTD and with BT Sport.

He landed a role on The One Show alongside Alex Jones back in 2020.
