The National Television Awards sparked complaints just minutes into the 2024 ceremony.
The annual event celebrating the best of British TV descended on London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday night (September 11). Host Joel Dommett was on hosting duties, with the biggest names on TV hoping to win the awards they’d been nominated for.
However, ITV viewers issued complaints just minutes after the show kicked off at 8pm on ITV. They took to X, formerly Twitter, to rip into the opening number which saw Joel burst into a song.

One person complained: “Most painful intro in some time! #NTAs.” Another commented: “That was horrendous Joel.”
Another jibed: “The singing intro thing only really works when it’s someone that can actually sing,”. “What the actual f**k is this?” asked another. A fifth added: “Oh how corny.”
Joel’s musical number featured many of the stars and their shows up for a nomination, including Davina McCall, Bradley Walsh and Ant and Dec. Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke joined Joel on stage at one point as they performed a little jazz number together.
But even Joel couldn’t help but have a jab at himself whilst singing. He said: “So much talent to celebrated, me? I’ve not been nominated!”
Shortly after Joel’s performance, it was time to reveal who had won the Factual Entertainment gong. The likes of Clarkson’s Farm and Yorkshire Vet were nominated, but it was Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out who won.
She was gobsmacked with the win as she embraced her eldest son next to her. Once she was on stage, the TV presenter confessed she had been practising her losing face, not expecting to win.
During her speech, she thanked the families who opened up their homes and hearts to her for the show as she collected the prize.
