Viewers spot major error on BBC Breakfast during Toyah Willcox’s Strictly interview

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to spot a glaring error during Saturday morning’s episode (September 21).

Hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty had just kicked off a segment on strictly-come-dancing>Strictly Come Dancing, which saw reporter David Sillito catching up with the contestants ahead of this evening’s show.

Among the pairs he spoke to were Toyah Willcox and her dance partner Neil Jones. Sillito started by asking if the star had any “qualms” about joining the show in light of recent bullying allegations.

“Strictly’s been in the news over the last few months. Did you have any qualms when you said yes? ” he queried.

“I’m very sorry that people have had a negative experience,” Toyah began. “All I can say so far: this has been the best experience of my life. We are being looked after beautifully,” reports the Express.

Despite the interview going off without a hitch, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Toyah’s name was misspelled in the banner that appeared during the interview. Instead of Toyah Willcox, it read Toyah Wilcox.

“Nice to see the item on Strictly Come Dancing. Shame the BBC got Toyah’s name misspelled,” commented one peeved viewer.

The segment later revisited Toyah and her reasons for stepping onto the Strictly dance floor. The singer and actress, who has enjoyed a 45-year career in the limelight, said she wanted to demonstrate that age is no obstacle.

“I feel young, I don’t feel old and I think people want to feel that way. That’s why I’m doing it, to say ‘Look I’m a pensioner, if I can do it, you can do it.'”

BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One and BBC News 24
