Lorraine Kelly says ‘it’s the worst’ as she details ‘horrid’ health battle

Lorraine Kelly has bravely spoken out about her “horrid” battle with shingles during a segment on her ITV show.

The telly favourite, 64, was back in the hot seat for another instalment of Lorraine, where she chats about everything from celeb gossip to serious health issues. In the episode, she and Tyler West dished the dirt on entertainment news.

While gabbing about comedian Bob Mortimer’s recent health woes with shingles, Lorraine couldn’t help but reveal her own nasty run-in with the condition. Reports have surfaced that poor Bob suffered muscle wastage after a gruelling six-month fight with shingles, even needing a wheelchair at times while filming his hit series.

She went on to describe the agony of the illness, saying: “It’s like having itchy pain, you know. It’s very difficult to describe but it’s horrid,” reports the Mirror.

Tyler weighed in with what he’d heard about Bob’s tough time, adding: “I mean he did say that it was probably like worse than his heart conditions that he had like six years ago. So that kind of puts into perspective how much he was in pain.”

Lorraine then urged viewers to get vaccinated against shingles if possible, saying: “So if you can get the jab to stop that please do. If you’re lucky to get that.”

Bob Mortimer, who co-hosts Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse, has recently opened up about his shingles ordeal, admitting: “I wasn’t very well and it made it a bit of a struggle but, as always, Paul looked after me and pulled me through.

“For half of the season, I couldn’t walk so it was very challenging at times. When we were in Trent, I was being taken from a wheelchair to the top of the bank. You never see that but you never see me on my feet either.”

Updating his fans, he added: “I just tried to get some muscle back, or get some to grow a bit stronger. I’m 80% back and, by the end of the series, I was reasonably sprightly.”

He then shared: “The first two episodes are the greatest of Gone Fishing that have ever been made. I think they’re magnificent.”

According to the NHS website, “shingles is an infection that causes a painful rash”.
