BBC Breakfast host expresses concern on-air for ‘upset’ arrival and says ‘we can break’

A BBC Breakfast presenter expressed his worry for a visibly “upset” guest, reassuring them that their presence wasn’t obligatory.

The popular morning programme was back on the airwaves on Sunday (October 13), with presenters Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden ready to delve into the day’s top stories from the iconic red sofa.

Towards the show’s conclusion, the duo welcomed animal handler Stuart Phillips alongside his two detection dogs, Yo-yo and Scamp – who have just been honoured with an animal version of an OBE.

The heroic hounds received the PDSA Order of Merit after a stellar ten-year stint with Trading Standards, sniffing out illegal tobacco products valued at over £30 million.

But as they chatted with the canine heroes and their handler, one of the hosts paused the interview to address his concern for one of the dogs, reports the Express.

Ben remarked: “Little scamp here is shaking. Is he ok?” to which Stuart responded: “He’s fine yeah.” Rachel chimed in to offer reassurance: “He doesn’t have to be up at the sofa if he wants to go down.”

Ben then added: “If he’s upset we can give him a bit of a break.” Stuart clarified: “He’s been retired for over a year now so he just prefers staying at home these days.” To which Rachel jokingly retorted: “And you’ve dragged him out on a Sunday morning!'”.

This incident followed Naga Munchetty’s playful dig at her colleagues during the live broadcast on Saturday (October 12).

Following a chat with Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt, Naga Munchetty’s co-host Charlie Stayt remarked on the jovial atmosphere of the show. He observed: “It always looks like they’re having such fun there doesn’t it?” to which Naga concurred: “They do have fun there.”

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One.
