Martin Roberts has recounted the chilling episode when a Homes Under The Hammer crew member stumbled upon what they believed was a corpse during filming.
The telly fave, who has fronted the BBC house auction show since 2003 and appeared in over a staggering 700 episodes, has snooped around countless properties for the programme. Given Martin’s extensive experience, it’d be easy for some homes to slip his mind, but one particularly grim find is sure to haunt him and his team forever.
Recollecting the chilling event in a recent interview, he described how a crew member stumbled upon the disturbing discovery while searching around upstairs area of a property.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “We went to this one house, which had clearly been lived in until very recently. Almost like the kettle was still hot kind of thing and we went in and then the director went and had a look around. And she came out absolutely ashen in the face. And she said, ‘There is a dead body! There’s a dead body in the bed’.”
Martin revealed that when the crew entered the room, they were greeted by the sight of a body-shaped lump under the covers. The tension was broken by the sound of snoring, but the story took a sad twist when it turned out to be an elderly man abandoned by his family, reports the Mirror.
Martin recalled: “And then this old man sat bolt upright, no teeth and said, ‘Where’s my family? ‘ and the people had left in such a rush that they forgot grandad. Grandad was still sleeping in the bed. The family had left. The house had been sold. He’s suddenly faced with film crew from homes under.”
The BBC presenter detailed how they managed to locate the family at a nearby residence, leading to a heartwarming reunion with the grandfather.
