EastEnders fans were left amazed after discovering that Sophie Khan Levy, who plays Priya Nandra-Hart, has a famous mum.

The actress is gearing up for the big 40th anniversary celebration in EastEnders. However one star revealed they would not be a part of the special live episode.

Sophie’s character Priya arrived in Walford last year with her daughter Avani (Aaliyah James) as Ravi’s (Aaron Thiara) ex-girlfriend and secret child, leaving him and the entire Panesar family shocked.

The mother-daughter pair quickly caused a stir, from family disputes to romantic complications, ensuring their time on the square was far from boring. Off-screen, Sophie Khan Levy is no stranger to fame.

In 2023, she played Gabrielle Ade in the chilling true BBC drama, The Sixth Commandment. She also starred as Florence Pandhi in the 2022 veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small and as Beth in James Corden’s Amazon Prime series Mammals.

However, fans have recently discovered that Sophie’s lineage includes a well-known face. Her mother is Shaheen Khan, known for her role as Mrs Bhamra in the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham.

Shaheen also appeared as Kiran Joghill in BBC’s medical soap Casualty in the late ’80s and has had roles in popular shows like BBC’s Doctors and Doctor Who. Fans were completely taken aback to learn that Shaheen Khan is actually Sophie’s real-life mum, reports OK!.

A TikTok revelation led one user to comment: “Omg didn’t know the Bend it like Beckham mum was her mum.”

Meanwhile, a third person expressed their surprise: “The way I went and told everyone in my household they’re mother and daughter in real life, so surprised.”

When talking about joining the cast of EastEnders, Sophie had said last year: “I’m super excited to be joining the show, and I can’t wait to see what trouble Priya gets herself into!” She also expressed her joy at becoming part of the iconic soap, adding: “I watched EastEnders when I was growing up, so to see so many familiar faces and to walk onto the set is a dream come true.”
