Holly Willoughby is convinced she was terrible at presenting when she got her big break.

The TV favourite started out on kids shows when she was in her early 20s and she reckons she was useless. In a candid interview, she told the Daily Star Sunday: “When I started in TV, I was awful. I look back at things when I was on kids TV and I wasn’t great. But you have to start somewhere. I hope I’ve got better.”

Holly is thrilled TV execs gave her a chance to become a more polished presenter as time went on.

She added: “What was lovely about kids telly back then is you were given the space to mess up and nobody pounced on you. It was like I had my university years of learning TV in kids TV and thank god for that.”

Holly has now been on our screens for 25 years, making her one of the most successful presenters in the country.

She said: “It just doesn’t feel like that. That doesn’t seem real, somehow. I feel lucky to have worked at something for so long.”

Holly’s latest project is Netflix reality show Celebrity Bear Hunt, which has been a thrill for her.

She said: “It feels great to be doing something like this. It is lovely to be doing something new. Right now, I’m loving doing this and doing what I’m doing. It’s best not to look too far into the future. But at the moment it feels really good.”

The show sees famous faces dropped into the jungle and become prey for survival expert Grylls. The contestants stay in a lodge and are pursued by Grylls, 50, when they enter the Bear Pit, where they are given a map and different options for escape.

Former Spice Girl Mel B described being on the unique show as the “scariest thing” and akin to a “nightmare”.

She said: “It was the worst, most scariest thing. It’s like one of those dreams that you know is a dream, and it’s a nightmare, but it’s actually true.”

She continued: “At one point he was up there, and I was underneath the rock, and I could hear him breathing, and I’m thinking, ‘Do I move? Don’t I move?’

“It’s like pure panic and then when you know he’s on to you, you start to run like the panthers and hope that you don’t fall over and damage any part of your body because once he starts running at you, that is it. And I didn’t even know he could run that fast.”
