White Lotus fans realise hints toward character deaths hidden in title sequence

The White Lotus has had viewers gripped for weeks but now fans are starting to think that the opening credits were hinting towards the show’s darkest storyline all along

The White Lotus fans have made a horrifying discovery.

Viewers of the HBO drama just starting to twig that the latest series might have been dropping hints right under their noses in the opening credits.

The third instalment follows another bunch of holidaymakers on a trip they won’t forget at a swanky resort, this time in Thailand. Each series brings in a mostly fresh cast in different spots, but someone always ends up dying.

White Lotus usually kicks off with a flash forward in the first episode showing a corpse, before rewinding to show what led up to that point. Series three didn’t break the mould, with one character seen running from gunfire and stumbling across a body.

After some of the most jaw-dropping episodes yet, fans are clocking that the opening titles might have given the game away from the start, reports the Mirror US.

A TikTok shared by Curiously explains a popular theory that the opening credits have been dropping clues about the plot all along. It comes as fans notice that the illustrations shown on screen for each actor’s name could be a hint at their character’s fate.

The video explains: “The storyline was basically hidden in plain sight. For example, when they show Patrick Schwarzenegger’s name, the background is two men peering at a topless woman who seems uncomfortable.”

“Then when Jason Isaac’s name comes on the screen a man is shown trapped in a tree full of knives, which fans think represent Tim Ratliff being trapped by his dodgy business moves which got him into legal trouble.”

Continuing on: “Sam Nivola’s illustration is a boy lying in a lake wearing only his underwear. Could this be a major finale spoiler? Showing who the dead character in the water at the start actually is? And when Carrie Coon’s name is shown in the background there is an image of an elephant that’s alone surrounded by a pack of other animals which people think signifies Laurie being left out.”

“Finally, Aimee Lou Wood’s title shows a larger tiger viciously killing another smaller cat in front of other animals. Which could mean some violence coming from Chelsea?”

One art boffin has seemingly thrown weight behind this theory but hinted that viewers might not have clocked the whole story just yet. Kelly Cahn, an art guru, chatted with Today.com, saying: “I feel like they’re literally showing us the entire thing in advance. Like, there’s some story that’s a cover up or something.”

The genius behind the sequence, Plains of Yonder studio, admitted there are some hidden gems tucked away in their creations. One artist from the team hinted that there’s more than meets the eye, stating: “Even costume designers, casting directors and editors get customised whenever possible.”

“The editor credit on season one depicted caterpillars cutting away at leaves, in season three its three men wielding long swords. Sometimes it’s about an actual storyline but often it’s more a representation of the broader character. For some reason, plants and animals often represent people better than people do.”
