New Zealand singer Lorde, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, wore a very daring look at the 2025 Met Gala, wearing a top held up by luck alone
Singer Lorde snatched attention at the 2025 Met Gala in a gravity defying look.
The New Zealand star, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, wore a chic take on the event’s theme, which this year was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Her ensemble was by designer Thom Browne.
It was made up of a gunmetal silver blazer, over the top of a panelled bandeau top and full-length skirt. However when she took off the blazer, throwing it over one shoulder, she revealed the full extent to her jaw-dropping look.
The panel of her top covered her chest but left her completely backless. There were no visible straps at all holding up the top.
The raven-haired beauty kept everything else simple, opting for a pair of pointed-toe grey heels and natural-looking makeup.
Her hair was slicked back, which added extra emphasis to her nearly-topless outfit, though she added some bling with chains and a metal fish hanging from her braided ponytail.
Opinion was mixed on her ensemble, though.
On social media, one person wrote: “And completely ignored the theme. She could’ve skipped it again if a gum wrapper was the best she could do.”
Another added: “It’s insulting honestly.”
Someone else said: “I don’t have words, in the bad way.”
However others were enamoured, with one person writing: “My lorde and saviour.” Plenty of others left heart-eye and flame emojis.
The theme for this year’s Met Gala – Superfine: Tailoring Black Style – brought menswear to the forefront for the first time in longer than 20 years.
It was co-chaired by A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and, of course, Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
