Actor Gerard Depardieu has been found guilty of sexual assault.
A Paris court found the star guilty of sexual assault against two women and has been handed an 18 month suspended prison sentence.
Gerard continued to deny the claims made against him during the trial. He has claimed that he did not know what sexual assault was.
The trial relates to charges of sexual assault during the filming of the 2021 film Les Volets Verts, which translates to The Green Shutters, directed by Jean Becker.
The 76-year-old’s victims were working behind the scenes on this film when the alleged incidents took place.

They both claimed they were too scared to speak out against the actor at the time of the alleged incidents. One woman said that she “was petrified”.
She alleged that Gerard trapped her in his legs as she tried to move past him in a corridor before running his hands over her body, claiming he “terrified” her and “looked like a madman”.

Depardieu, who has starred in over 200 films including Going Places, The Count of Monte Cristo and Cyrano de Bergerac, is a high profile figure in the French acting world.
He has received support from many actors and directors, as well as the French president Emmanuel Macron. The politician previously branded Gerard “the pride of France”.

His victims claimed he used explicit language toward them before sexually assaulting them by grabbing the women.
Gerard first denied touching one of the victims, then claimed he grabbed her hips to stop himself from falling over, then claimed he grabbed her to try and get her attention.
