Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, who played Rick Hackett and Chelsea in The White Lotus, have finally opened up about their reported feud after an awkward unfollow on Instagram
The sizzling on-screen romance and tangled love tale of White Lotus had fans hooked, yet whispers of a behind-the-scenes spat between stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood persisted after an iffy social media exchange. However, the duo, who portrayed enigmatic Rick Hackett and his partner Chelsea, have now cleared the air – explaining their scarce encounters post the third season’s February debut.
An emotional Walton couldn’t contain himself as he professed “I love this woman madly” in reference to Aimee, keen to quash any hearsay, reports the Mirror..
Reuniting for a Variety magazine feature two months after the show’s climactic conclusion, they once again got cosy. Recounting their initial meet-up, Aimee disclosed that Walton had messaged her to join him for lunch, admitting: “I didn’t know what to order. I was like, ‘Can you pick for me?’ I was so nervous.”
Walton chimed in: “The minute she walked around the corner, I felt, ‘This is gonna work. Two minutes into the conversation, it felt like I’ve known this person for 100 years.”
Despite the feud rumours, Walton emphasised just how much Aimee means to him, visibly moved during his declaration.
He spilled the beans to the mag: “There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me.”
Looking at Aimee, he gushed: “This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be. I’ll be on an island, I think Greece. But she’s special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.”
Aimee wasn’t bothered in the slightest about the feud whispers and Walton giving her the cold shoulder on Instagram.
She scoffed at the obsession with social media, saying: “I think it’s such a comment on where we’re at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don’t give a s**** about Instagram.”
Initially keen to clap back at the tittle-tattle about the unfollowing, Aimee decided instead to just “sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing”.
Walton, whose first wife tragically took her own life in 2004, hinted that his Instagram unfollow spree was down to his struggle with farewells, having grown close to everyone involved in the show.
In tears, he confessed: “I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea.”
Walton revealed he needed some space from everyone after filming wrapped up and admitted he hadn’t been in touch with anyone because he “just couldn’t cope”. He candidly added: “Judge me or don’t. I don’t give a f*** what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me.”
As the interview drew to a close, Walton vowed to re-follow Aimee on Instagram, brushing off the drama as “ridiculous” and promising they’d be mates “for f****** ever”.
Getting choked up once more as he shared a hug with his former co-star, Walton said: “I’m emotional because we haven’t been in the same city to ever talk about this. So for me, this is just so wonderful.”
