EXCLUSIVE: Former Coronation Street actress Maura Higgins has revealed Love Island alumni Maura Higgins “got the gig instead of me” as she talks dream telly roles
Coronation Street’s Helen Flanagan has revealed she was once beaten to a job by Love Island legend Maura Higgins.
The soap star, 34, claimed she once auditioned for ITV’s Dancing On Ice but was beaten by Irish TV personality Maura, also 34.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star at the WhichBingo Awards, Helen said: “For me, Dancing On Ice was the one show I thought that looked really quite scary because I’m not a sporty person.
“It’s no longer running but I remember I was actually up for it one point and I remember going skating and stuff and Maura Higgins did it instead, Maura got the gig instead of me.”
Maura competed on series 12 of the show in 2020 and was partnered with professional skater Alexander Demetriou – the pair came in 6th place.
Helen also shared what show she would like to do in the future and added: “I’d love to do Celebrity Big Brother, I’m quite a people’s person and quite social. I was rooting for Jack [P. Shepherd] this year, as we shot Coronation Street together and had tutoring together. He’s so lovely, I’m so happy he came across so well.”
The bikini babe also revealed that she bathed in cockroaches before the I’m A Celeb jungle to help her mentally prepare for the gruesome ITV trials.
Helen explained: “In All Stars, I properly trained for that and paid a phobia coach. He would get me involved with all the snakes and all these bugs. I remember being in this bath and this guy chucked cockroaches on me until I stopped screaming.
“It was at this farm, there were tarantulas and snakes, it was really good for your mind. I paid the guy to do loads of phobias with me, heights and all sorts.
“But when I got there, it was the producers choosing who did the trials, so I only got picked to do a few but I had prepped for everything. I had literally done so much beforehand.
“I would go to Go Ape all the time for heights, which I’m glad because I did the highest trial in I’m A Celeb history with Myleene Klass and Amir Khan. It’s like being an actress, if you don’t learn your lines and don’t prepare for it, you won’t be ready.
“You have to get yourself in a different mindset, but it was such a nice feeling to be ready for it.”
