Love Island saw two islanders dumped from the villa in a shock double elimination
Two Love Island contestants have been given the boot, and ITV viewers are over the moon about the latest villa departures.
The tension was palpable last night (June 26) as two couples went their separate ways. Alima pulled the plug on her romance with Remell, citing feelings of disrespect after his saucy tryst with bombshell Poppy at the sleepover villa.
In another corner of the villa, Ben decided to put the brakes on his budding connection with Yasmin, sparking a heated row between the pair.
But the drama didn’t end there; Iain Stirling later revealed that the public would be voting for their favourite boy and girl in the villa, leaving those with the fewest votes at risk of eviction.
In tonight’s (June 27) episode, it emerged that Remell, Ben, and Harry received the lowest number of votes. Meanwhile, Toni, Shakira, and Megan were left biting their nails, reports OK!.
The six islanders were told to gather around the firepit as the safe contestants read out the results. Remell was the first to get the axe, meaning Harry and Ben were off the hook.
While this didn’t come as a huge shock to the villa residents, the identity of the dumped girl left them visibly stunned. Dublin beauty Megan was the next to be shown the door, having secured the fewest public votes.
As her fellow islanders reeled from her departure, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their delight at the star’s exit.
“Good riddance […],” wrote one user. “MEGAN IS GONEEEE,” exclaimed another.
Another ITV enthusiast added: “Toni and Shakira sending Megan home, that’s what I like to see.”
However, it’s not just Megan’s departure that has pleased viewers; many have expressed their relief at Remell’s exit from the reality show.
“YEEEEES THANK YOU PUBLIC,” exclaimed a fourth viewer, with a fifth writing: “THE BRITISH PUBLIC HAVE FINALLY VOTED CORRECTLY FOR ONCE.
Despite the negative consensus, some fans jumped to Megan’s defence. “So wrong to dump Megan tho she was not my fave but her and Conor were cute,” said one.
A second agreed: “Megan decided to play the game as it should be played and not just be tied down to Tommy and these fans literally sent her home for it.”
Original cast member Megan was a fan favourite until recently, when she ended her long-term partnership with Tommy and swiftly moved onto Conor.
Audiences believe the 24-year-old could have made it to the final if she had handled her split from Tommy differently.
“[She] literally had the potential to be in the final if she didn’t do that to Tommy,” an X user commented.
Love Island continues Sunday night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
