Diplo Praises Queer Artists for Changing the Way Music Exists

    Instagram

Fronting the May edition of an LGBTQ+ publication, the ‘Close to Me’ DJ claims that it’s ‘always been the queer community who have to scratch it out of nothing.’
    Mar 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Diplo has credited queer artists for the evolution of music in recent history.
The DJ and producer, 41, spoke with British LGBTQ+ publication Attitude, where he praised the “fearlessness” of queer artists who have “changed the way music exists.”
“The original guys who were creating hip-hop were queer. House music, Baltimore Club, New Orleans bounce music – every time there’s a genre that falls out of nothing, it’s always been kind of like the queer scene that created that,” he said.
The star, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, continued, “It’s always been in the underground. It’s like Vogue that Madonna put out, and she’s always shown respect and love, but it’s always been the queer community who have to scratch it out of nothing.”
“I think that’s back to the fearlessness because when you have that energy – the masculine energy, the feminine – you’re taking all the risks because there’s nothing to lose,” the Major Lazer star mused. “I think it might be challenging for some straight men, but for queer artists it’s kind of second nature. They’re able to go wherever they want and, like I said, there’s no walls.”

Diplo appears on the cover of the May edition of the publication with pal and country music star Orville Peck.

The “Boy With Luv” hitmakers announced the trek in January, beginning with two dates at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, with further stops in Texas, Illinois, Canada and more across North America.

    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rihanna’s long-awaited music comeback is finally here. On Friday, March 27, the Barbadian songstress surprised her fans by announcing the release of her collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Believe It”. She tweeted, “Believe it!! @partynextdoor album live!!!” along with a snippet of the music.
The new song, which has been made available for listening pleasure on YouTube and music streaming platforms, is a groove-filled slow jam that features Rihanna’s vocals at various points on the song. She takes up roughly 40 seconds of the track. “That’s when you believe it,” she croons on the hook. “That’s when you believe it/ Believe you want to see me.”

“Believe It” marks Rihanna’s first new music in three years. She previously teamed up with PND on her Drake-assisted single “Work”, which the Canadian singer/songwriter co-wrote.
“Believe It” is part of PND’s upcoming album “Partymobile”, his first album in four years, which was unveiled on Thursday at midnight via OVO Sound. The 15-track set also boasts a Drake collaboration, “Loyal”, which has spanned a remix.
Rihanna, meanwhile, was last featured in a single in 2017, when she appeared on N.E.R.D’s epic “Lemon”, Future’s “Selfish”, DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty”. Her last album “ANTI” debuted in 2016.
Her fans have since eagerly anticipated for her new album, which is dubbed “R9”. In October, she teased her upcoming new album, “I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album. It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”

Bob Dylan Comes Out With First Song in Eight Years Amid Coronavirus Crisis

    WENN

Surprising fans with the release of 17-minute-long ‘Murder Most Foul’, the ‘Hurricane’ singer introduced it as ‘an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting.’
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bob Dylan surprised fans by dropping his first new song in eight years on Thursday night, March 26, – the 17-minute-long “Murder Most Foul”.
The 78-year-old singer’s new track tells the story of the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and includes lines such as, “They blew off his head while he was still in the car.”
Another, from Kennedy’s perspective, sees Dylan sing, “Riding in the backseat next to my wife / And it’s straight on into the afterlife / I’m leaning to the left I got my head in her lap.”
Speaking about the tune in a statement, Dylan said, “Greetings to my fans and followers with gratitude for all your support and loyalty over the years. This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant and may God be with you.”
    [embedded content]
It’s unclear exactly when “Murder Most Foul” was recorded, and a representative for the singer told Variety that no further information about the tune will be revealed.
The song, Dylan’s first original material since his album “Tempest” came out in 2012, has a running time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds – beating his previous record held by his 16-minute-and-31-second-long 1997 album tune “Highlands”.
After Dylan shared the new track on Twitter, his fans were quick to respond, with one referencing the coronavirus pandemic as they wrote, “Thank you Bob, your music has been getting us through these times.”
Another commented, “Very emotional song… The song was beautiful, music outstanding, lyrics deeply touching. Thank you for sharing.”

Isle of Wight Festival 2020 Gets Axed Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Another June event affected by the lockdown imposed to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 is Download Festival as organizers vow to assemble an ‘amazing line-up for 2021.’
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – The 2020 Isle of Wight Festival has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Following the cancellation of Britain’s Glastonbury festival earlier this month, organisers of the Isle of Wight axed plans for the June event, as the U.K. remains in lockdown to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“The Isle of Wight Festival will no longer be taking place this year,” they said in a statement on Thursday, March 26. “This decision has not been taken lightly and we have tried out hardest to make it work, but it was unavoidable given the current status.”
“The whole team was excited to welcome everyone to the island for another fantastic festival and we extend our sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as we were,” organisers continued. “The safety of our audience, artists, crew and the Isle of Wight community is paramount and we appreciate your patience whilst we’ve been working through this unprecedented situation.”

The news was shared on Twitter, along with the announcement that the U.K.’s Download Festival, also set to take place in June, had been axed amid the global health crisis.

Both festivals vowed to return next year, with Isle of Wight teasing the event will be “stronger than ever”, and Download vowing to assemble an “amazing line-up for 2021.”
Isle of Wight Festival was set to be headlined by the likes of Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, The Chemical Brothers, and Duran Duran, with Download featuring sets from KISS, Iron Maiden and System Of A Down.
They join the SXSW, Coachella, Stagecoach, Snowbombing 2020, and Ultra Music festivals around the world that have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.
