Colton Underwood, ‘Bachelor’ Star, Comes Out as Gay

The 29-year-old former football player had written about questioning his sexuality in a memoir, published in 2020.Colton Underwood, a star of “The Bachelor” and a former football player, came out as gay in an interview with Robin Roberts that aired Wednesday on “Good Morning America.”He described 2020 as a year of self-reflection, one that “probably made a lot of people look in the mirror and confront what they were running from or what they’ve been putting off in their lives.”“I’ve ran from myself for a long time,” Mr. Underwood, 29, said in the interview. “I’ve hated myself for a long time. And I’m gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know.”He said that coming to understand his sexuality has been a “journey,” and now he is “the happiest and healthiest” he’s felt in his life. He had reached a low in 2020, he said, that led to thoughts of self-harm and suicide.“I got to a place where I didn’t think I was ever going to share this,” he said. “I would have rather died than say, ‘I’m gay.’ And I think that was sort of my wake-up call.”In his 2020 memoir, “The First Time: Finding Myself and Looking for Love on Reality TV,” Mr. Underwood described being confronted by his parents about his sexuality as a teenager.“‘You know, Colt, we’d still love you and support you if you were gay,’” he recalled his mother telling him.His father was more confrontational. “He’d pulled up the history of recent Google searches, which included gay porn sites and a variety of questions: ‘Am I gay? How do you know if you’re gay? Why don’t I like having sex with my girlfriend?’” Mr. Underwood wrote in the book. “At first, I denied responsibility. Then I owned up to having been curious. He asked if I wanted to talk about it. I said no, explaining that I’d figured things out on my own.”Mr. Underwood appeared on “The Bachelorette” in 2018 and quickly became a fan favorite on the reality dating show. But Becca Kufrin, the season’s star, worried that he was unprepared for a lifelong commitment and eliminated him after their “hometown” date, where she met his family. (The show’s producers had made Mr. Underwood’s sexual inexperience a major plot point.)He starred on “The Bachelor” in 2019, where again his virginity was a central theme. Near the end of the season, as the stress of the show increased, he said he was “done” with filming and “jumped the fence” of a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal in an effort to escape the set. After the show ended, Mr. Underwood and Cassie Randolph, 25, the front-runner of his season, began dating. Ms. Randolph’s family helped him recover from Covid-19 in March, around the time his memoir was published. The couple announced their split in May 2020. In November, Ms. Randolph filed a restraining order against Mr. Underwood, who she said had placed a tracking device on her car. Viewers of his “Good Morning America” segment inferred that this was the personal low to which he was alluding. The “Bachelor” franchise had its first onscreen same-sex relationship in 2019 on “Bachelor in Paradise.” Demi Burnett, who appeared on Mr. Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor,” and Kristian Haggerty, who was flown out to the set midseason, ended up getting engaged. (They later broke it off.)In its 20 years, the franchise has never featured an all-gay cast. More

Kristin Cavallari Makes Huge Return in Season 2 Trailer of 'The Hills: New Beginnings'

    MTV

Kristin’s much-anticipated return aside, the trailer for the MTV series also sees Audrina Patridge accidentally letting it slip in that she’d kissed longtime friend Brody Jenner.

    Apr 14, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Hills: New Beginnings” has released the first trailer for upcoming season 2. The first-look video offers fans a scene where Kristin Cavallari makes a huge return to the reboot as she steps out of the car in style.

Donning a cut-out black dress, the recently-divorced star shows a power walk as she flips her hair while making her grand entrance. Later, the screen fades to black with someone saying in voiceiver, “To being reunited.”

Fans of the MTV show were beyond excited to see Kristin’s appearance on the reboot, though it will be just one episode. “Kristin Cavallari coming back to The Hills is the antidepressant I needed today,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Prior to this, Kristin teased her return to the show, saying that the new season would not be filled with drama. “No drama, at least not about me,” the Uncommon James designer shared with Us Weekly earlier this month. “I filmed one episode. So what could you really do? But it was so much fun. I had such a great time. It was like no time had passed and I’m really happy that I was able to do it.”

Kristin’s much-anticipated return aside, the trailer also sees Audrina Patridge accidentally letting it slip in that she’d kissed longtime friend Brody Jenner. Nothing much is known about the kiss, but his relationship seemingly will be focused heavily in the forthcoming season.

“I’ve hurt a lot of people I love,” he admits, adding, “And that’s not the Brody I want to be.” The self-proclaimed “Prince of Malibu” also discusses his breakup from Kaitlynn Carter before he is seen cuddling with an unknown woman in a bathtub.

“After a year of lockdowns and lost time, the cast of Hollywood’s most iconic friend group is reuniting. This season finds them at a crossroads and their lives tested like never before,” MTV wrote in a statement. “While some struggle with the financial strains from the global pandemic and rebuilding businesses, others are navigating through rocky relationships, struggling with addiction as well as their mental and physical health. From a highly-publicized divorce and rekindling former flames to starting new families and surprise pregnancies, all bets are off this season.”

Also starring Whitney Port, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Brandon Thomas Lee, Justin Bobby Brescia and more, season 2 of “The Hills: New Beginnings” premieres on May 12 at 9 P.M. E.T. on MTV.

Jimmy Fallon Pokes Fun at Johnson & Johnson’s Vaccine Pause

“That’s right, they’re recommending a pause. Then anyone who’s ever been dumped was like: ‘Oh, boy. We know what “pause” means,’” Fallon said.Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. We’re all stuck at home at the moment, so here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now. What Are the Odds?Johnson & Johnson was the talk of late night on Tuesday after the F.D.A. advised a pause in using its Covid vaccine because six recipients developed blood clots within two weeks of vaccination.“That’s right, they’re recommending a pause. Then anyone who’s ever been dumped was like: ‘Oh, boy. We know what “pause” means,’” Jimmy Fallon joked.“But statistically speaking, six is not that significant, since nearly seven million people in the U.S. have received Johnson & Johnson shots so far. That’s less than one in a million. To put that in perspective, it’s slightly better odds than you have of getting to visit Willy Wonka’s Fantabulous Chocolate Factory, which, for the record, kills or maims four out of the five children who step foot inside.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“You realize that means you’re more likely to get struck by lightning 10 times, which, by the way, is the origin story of Marvel’s most useless superhero.” — TREVOR NOAH“That means the odds are less than one in a million. It’s .0000009 — that’s more zeros than in the Trump family.” — JIMMY KIMMEL“And don’t forget, yes, yes — you might have a 0.0001 percent chance of getting blood clots from this vaccine, but if you get coronavirus, you can get lung damage, heart damage, neurological damage, strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, immune disorders, erectile dysfunction and, get this, also blood clots.” — TREVOR NOAH“And today if you had a Johnson & Johnson appointment in New York, they gave out Pfizer instead. Yeah, it’s like going to a restaurant and hearing, ‘We’re out of Coke; is Dom Pérignon OK?’” — JIMMY FALLON“Yeah, it’s a really rare event. It’s like seeing a working self-checkout machine at CVS, that’s how rare.” — JIMMY FALLONThe Punchiest Punchlines (Johnson v. Johnson Edition)“Honestly, if you ask me, I think it’s impressive Johnson & Johnson even made a vaccine with such a low chance of blood clots. Pfizer and Moderna are drug companies; Johnson & Johnson makes baby shampoo — I’m surprised their [expletive] works at all.” — TREVOR NOAH“When reached for comment, Johnson said it was Johnson’s fault, but Johnson pointed the finger at Johnson.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“I blame the second Johnson. He never graduated high school.” — JIMMY KIMMEL“Damn it, Johnson & Johnson, you had one jab.” — JAMES CORDEN“Johnson & Johnson is owned by the same family who owns the New York Jets, so don’t think of this as a pause; think of it more like a 50-year rebuild.” — JIMMY FALLONThe Bits Worth WatchingTaylor Swift revealed the inspiration for her song “Hey Stephen” on Tuesday’s “Late Show.”What We’re Excited About on Wednesday NightThe comedian Margaret Cho will be on Wednesday’s “A Little Late With Lilly Singh.”Also, Check This OutNina Totenberg, Linda Wertheimer and Cokie Roberts in 1979.NPRLisa Napoli’s “Susan, Linda, Nina & Cokie” chronicles four journalists who helped to establish NPR in the 1970s. Hank Azaria Feels the Need to Personally Apologize to Indian People for Voicing Apu on 'Simpsons'

    Instagram/FOX

More than a year after stepping down from voicing Apu, the Emmy-winning actor admits that the character was ‘an example of structural racism’ in the entertainment industry.

    Apr 14, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Hank Azaria has regretted his past decision to portray Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on “The Simpsons”. More than a year after stepping down from voicing the Indian character, the Emmy-winning actor says he feels the need to personally apologize to Indian people.

The 56-year-old expressed his remorse when speaking to Dax Shepard and Monica Padman in the Monday, April 12 episode of “Armchair Expert” podcast. “I apologize for my part in creating that and participating in that. Part of me feels like I need to go around to every single Indian person in this country and personally apologize. And sometimes I do when it comes up,” he pointed out

On how he took on the role, Hank recalled, “It’s 1988, and somebody says to me, ‘Hey, can you do an Indian accent?’ It was, like, one line. I said, ‘Yeah, I think so.’ And Apu comes out. We’re like ‘OK, that was funny’ and we all laugh.” He then added, “So that keeps going from there, and over the years it develops.”

Hank’s character on the iconic FOX cartoon series has long been criticized. However, he divulged that Hari Kondabolu’s 2017 documentary “The Problem With Apu” was the first to make him realize his mistake. “I got called out publicly,” he spilled. “I got canceled – however you want to put it. And really intensely.”

The “Brockmire” star then revealed it took three years for him to learn on racial issues. He mentioned that he “read, spoke to people who knew a lot about racism, spoke to lots of Indian people and went to seminars.” He also remembered talking to a 17-year-old Indian guy who told him how Apu has led to racial stereotypes of his heritage.

“With tears in his eyes, he said to me, ‘Will you please tell the writers in Hollywood that what they do and what they come up with really matters in people’s lives, and it has consequences?’ ” the husband of Katie Wright recounted. “I was like, ‘Yes, my friend – I will tell them that.’ ”

Having portrayed the character for around three decades, Hank admitted that it was “an example of structural racism” in the entertainment industry. “To me, participating in structural racism is about blind spots,” he said. “I really didn’t know any better. I don’t love the term ‘white privilege,’ but it applies. I prefer ‘relative advantage.’ I was unaware of how much relative advantage I had received in this country as a white kid from Queens.”

“There were very good intentions on all of our part [with Apu]. We tried to do a funny, thoughtful character. Just because there were good intentions doesn’t mean there weren’t real negative consequences that I am accountable for,” he continued. “Part of my amends for all this is that I’m continuing to educate myself.”

Shonda Rhimes Shocked by Uproar Over Rege-Jean Page's Exit From 'Bridgerton'

    WENN/Netflix

The producer of the Netflix period drama series is taken aback by fans’ outcry over the absence of the Duke of Hastings from the upcoming second season.

    Apr 14, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Bridgerton” creator Shonda Rhimes was stunned by the fan reaction to Rege-Jean Page’s “exit” from the hit show, insisting he was only ever supposed to appear in the first season.

Devotees fell in love with Page’s Duke of Hastings and were stunned last month (Mar21) when it was confirmed he wouldn’t be back for a second run of the show – and Rhimes had no idea superfans would be so upset.

“I was really shocked, because usually that happens when I’ve killed off somebody that’s been around for a while,” she tells Vanity Fair. “We didn’t even kill him! He’s still alive!”

But Rhimes is glad the Brit left such an impact on the Bridgerton faithful, adding, “He is a powerful, amazing actor and that meant we did our job.”

“Every season, our job is finding the right people and putting together this incredible, world-shifting romance.”

“I mean, really, what would Rege-Jean do, you know what I mean? We gave them (Duke and Duchess of Hastings) their happily ever after! And now we have this next couple coming.”

The Duchess, played by Phoebe Dynevor, will be back for the second season while it was also announced on Tuesday that Netflix bosses have signed on for a third and fourth season of the period drama hit, which launched on Christmas Day (25Dec20).

'Bridgerton' Gets Early Renewal for Season 3 and 4

    Netflix

The Netflix Regency drama series has been picked up for two more seasons by the streaming giant even while the second installment is still in production.

    Apr 14, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Netflix has agreed a deal with Shonda Rhimes for two more seasons of hit show “Bridgerton”.

The streaming giant has signed up for a third and fourth season of the period drama from executive producer Rhimes while its second season is currently still in production, according to editors at The Hollywood Reporter.

Renewal for seasons 3 and 4 follows a hugely successful debut which saw the show break the streamers viewing record and the departure of season 1 leading man Rege-Jean Page.

“This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy (Beers) and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience,” Rhimes said in a statement obtained by the publication.

“Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come,” Bela Bajaria, VP of global TV at Netflix, added in a statement from the streaming giant.

The second season of the Regency drama is expected to be based on Quinn’s novel “The Viscount Who Loved Me”, and will chronicle a new romance story of Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s search for love.

However, fans were disappointed to see the departure of British star Page who had originally signed on to the series with a one-year deal to play male lead Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.
