Oprah Winfrey Gushes Over Drew Barrymore's Green-Screen Chat Effect on TV Show

    WENN

The former daytime talk show host thanks the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ actress for pioneering green-screen chat technology as she uses the effect for her own ‘Oprah Conversations’ show.

    May 1, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Oprah Winfrey was so impressed with the green-screen technology Drew Barrymore used for her “Charlie’s Angels” reunion on her U.S. talk show, she has stolen it for her new series.

Drew was joined in the studio by Lucy Liu last year (21), but Cameron Diaz had to be beamed in so it looked like she was sitting next to her former co-stars – and Oprah was watching.

Appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Friday (30Apr21), Oprah said that seeing the show changed her life.

“You have changed my work life…,” Winfrey said. “There you all were and we didn’t know that you all weren’t in the same space. I watched that and I said, ‘Hey, why can’t we do what Drew did?’ ”

Oprah has been conducting green-screen interviews with virtual guests for her AppleTV+ show, “Oprah Conversations”, ever since and reveals her first was with former U.S. leader Barack Obama.

“There we were, sitting right across from each other in my living room…, and I said then, ‘This is because of you, Drew, so thank you.’ ”

And Drew and Oprah believe green-screen interviews will be the way to go for many TV hosts.

“I’ve heard people say, ‘After Drew, I’m not going nowhere,’ ” Oprah added. “The truth is you’re able to have better access…”

“In terms of having access to anybody in the world at any time, what you all did in that first show lit the path for changing it forever.”

Julianna Margulies Turned Down $27M Payday for 'E.R.' Return to Study Buddhism

    WENN

The Carol Hathaway depicter reveals in a new interview with Oprah Winfrey that she rejected a huge payday for TV return and chose to embark on spiritual journey instead.

    May 1, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Julianna Margulies turned down $27 million (£19.5 million) to return to “E.R.” for a seventh season following a sign from the universe.

The actress received a huge offer to film another two seasons of the beloved medical drama, in which she portrayed Carol Hathaway, but was ready to try something new, contrary to the advice of her agents and loved ones.

“I was going back to New York to go and do this play and then all this money came up,” she tells Oprah Winfrey in a taped interview for this weekend’s “Super Soul Sunday”. “Everyone I asked said, ‘You’d be crazy (not to sign on). Take the money, take the money.’ ”

“I felt very alone because I had already planned what I was going to do before they had offered me that money. I had my life planned.”

      See also…

Rather than taking her friends’ advice, Julianna asked the universe to send her a sign to guide her decision making, adding, “I had heard a friend got some spiritual books and I had been studying some Buddhism, so I went (to a bookstore) and I ran my finger down a shelf and I picked out a book, Awakening the Buddha Within.”

“I brought it home and I said nothing. I walked into my bedroom, I opened the book, I closed my eyes and I (pointed to a random line) and I opened my eyes and the line was, ‘I knew I wanted to learn more, not earn more.’ ”

Julianna originally signed up for a guest role on the show, but recently revealed George Clooney urged her not to take another job afterwards because he was sure producers would want her back as a permanent cast member.

She recalled, “George called me. He said, ‘If you’re thinking about taking a job, I urge you not to. I think in the next couple of days, you might be offered a series regular role.’ I was like, ‘But I died! How does that work?’ He was like, ‘I don’t know, but I think it’s going to work.’ ”

“I was about to go do Homicide: Life on the Street, because I had done two episodes of it before I did the pilot of ER and they wanted me back. I didn’t take the job. And a week later, they (ER bosses) called and said, ‘We’re going to make you a series regular.’ ”

BAFTA Rescinds Award for Actor Noel Clarke

The British actor and director has been accused of sexual assault, harassment and bullying by 20 women in a published report.LONDON — The body that awards Britain’s equivalent of the Oscars has suspended a prominent actor and director weeks after he received one of its top awards, following accusations of sexual assault, sexual harassment and bullying from 20 women.Producers, actresses and production assistants said the actor, Noel Clarke, secretly filmed auditions in which they were naked, groped or forcibly kissed them, and sent unsolicited intimate pictures. The testimonies were detailed in a lengthy exposé published by The Guardian on Thursday evening.Mr. Clarke, 45, grew up in London and established himself as an actor in the 2000s with the television series “Doctor Who.” He is well-known in Britain as a filmmaker and performer for his trilogy “The Hood,” about the lives of teenagers in West London, and for the TV police dramas “Bulletproof” and “Viewpoint.” His production company, Unstoppable Film & Television, has made more than 10 movies and television shows.Mr. Clarke denied the all accusations through his lawyers, according to The Guardian, with the exception of an episode in which he was accused of making inappropriate comments about a woman. He said he later apologized in that case.A spokesman for the artist management agency 42 M&P said it had stopped representing Mr. Clarke in April. Other efforts to contact Mr. Clarke and his representatives were not immediately successful.Allegations of sexual harassment in the film industry have poured forth in recent years following revelations about Harvey Weinstein in The New York Times that touched off the #MeToo movement. Mr. Clarke is one of the first prominent actors to face such allegations in Britain. In a statement provided to The Guardian, Mr. Clarke said, “In a 20-year career, I have put inclusivity and diversity at the forefront of my work and never had a complaint made against me.”“If anyone who has worked with me has ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I sincerely apologize,” Mr. Clarke said, denying any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing, and dismissing the accusations as false. The extent of the potential consequences for Mr. Clarke became clear on Friday when the television network ITV took the unusual step of saying in a statement that it would not air the finale of “Viewpoint,” a drama starring the actor, on its main channel Friday night because of the accusations against him.Mr. Clarke was recently honored by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, known commonly as BAFTA, with the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema prize at its annual ceremony earlier this month, even though it was made aware of the accusations nearly two weeks before the ceremony.BAFTA said in a statement on Friday that in the days following an announcement that Mr. Clarke would be awarded the prize, it received emails accusing him of sexual misconduct. The allegations, the organization said, were either anonymous or second- or third-hand accounts via intermediaries, adding that it would have responded differently if the testimonies had come directly from the accusers.“No names, times, dates, productions or other details were ever provided,” BAFTA said. “Had the victims gone on record as they have with The Guardian, the award would have been suspended immediately.”BAFTA, which had previously honored Mr. Clarke with its rising star award in 2009, said in an earlier statement, released shortly after the article was published, that it had suspended his award and membership of the academy “immediately and until further notice.”The Guardian report cited nearly two dozen women in the movie industry who said they had been subjected to a range of abuses that include unwanted physical contact, groping and forced kisses, as well as unsolicited sexual behavior on set, including eight on the record. The Norwegian film producer Synne Seltveit said Mr. Clarke slapped her buttocks in 2015, and later sent an unwanted explicit sexual picture. The actress Gina Powel said Mr. Clarke exposed himself to her in a car and later groped her in an elevator, also in 2015. Anna Avramenko, an assistant film director, said Mr. Clarke had forcibly kissed her on set in 2008 and had tried several times again after the incident.Helen Atherton, an art director on “Brotherhood,” which is part of “The Hood” trilogy, said Mr. Clarke had violated norms for the ethical filming of sex and nude scenes, including the hiring a nonprofessional actress to perform a scene in which intimate parts of her anatomy were visible. In recent years, as TV and movie productions grapple with the implications of the #MeToo movement, “intimacy coordinators,” are becoming a common presence on set. Their job is to ensure sex scenes don’t compromise or exploit the performers, and recent British and Irish shows like “It’s a Sin” and “Normal People” have featured intimacy coordinators among their crew.Onscreen, the plots of some recent British hits, like “Sex Education” and “I May Destroy You,” have turned on questions of sexual consent. The British actress and writer Michaela Coel, who created “I May Destroy You,” in which she plays a young Londoner who investigates her own rape, said in a statement she supported the women who accused Mr. Clarke.“Speaking out about these incidents takes a lot of strength because some call them ‘gray areas.’ They are, however, far from gray,” Ms. Coel said.“These behaviors are unprofessional, violent and can destroy a person’s perception of themselves, their place in the world and their career irreparably.”In his speech at the BAFTA Awards this month, Mr. Clarke, who is Black, dedicated his award to the “underrepresented, anyone who sits at home believing that they can achieve more.”“This is particularly for my young Black boys and girls out there who never believed that this could happen to them,” Mr. Clarke said.He added, “Hopefully people see that I’ve tried to elicit change in the industry.”The British academy had been repeatedly criticized for its lack of diversity in its list of awards nominees, and last year announced a series of changes in its nomination and prize-giving process. For this year’s awards, BAFTA’s 6,700 voting members had to undergo unconscious bias training and watch every nominated movie before they could cast their ballots for each category — an attempt to deter voters from focusing on the most hyped films. In the statement on Friday, BAFTA said it had asked individuals to come forward with their accounts and identify themselves.“We very much regret that women felt unable to provide us with the kind of firsthand testimony that has now appeared in The Guardian,” it said. “Had we been in receipt of this, we would never have presented the award to Noel Clarke.” More

Sarah Paulson's Linda Tripp Portrayal for 'Impeachment: ACM' Labeled as Fatphobia

    WENN/Instar

In some pictures featuring the award-winning actress as the American civil servant, Sarah is wearing a white top that she pairs with brown fat pantsuit.

    Apr 30, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Several set photos from “Impeachment: American Crime Story” have found their way out online and it offered the first look at Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, who infamously tapped calls she had with Monica Lewinsky about the latter’s affair with Bill Clinton. In the new pictures, which circulated on Thursday, April 29, Sarah was unrecognizable as she donned a blonde wig and a fatsuit.

In the pictures, the award-winning actress wore a white top that she paired with a brown pantsuit that looked identical with the ones that real-life Linda wore during one occasion. Completing her look as the American civil servant, Sarah’s Linda wore golden-framed sunglasses.

Some people praised how Sarah nailed the look as one said, “Woah I didn’t realize that was Sarah Paulson for a minute there! The makeup here is phenomenal!” Another person wrote, “Sarah coming for that second American Crime Story awards sweep after playing Marcia Clark.”

However, some others were feeling offended by the portrayal. “this is offensive to me not because of fatphobia which yes we can all aspire to do better on but specifically because linda tripp is not being portrayed as having her hair styled by angry weasels,” one person said on Twitter. “This could have been a fat actor,” journalist Kristin Chirico pointed out in a tweet. “This could have been their big breakout role. This could have been their Golden Globe or their Emmy nod. This could have been their paid off student loans or their first house. Instead it’s Sarah Paulson in a fat suit.”

Kristin added, “I feel like so much has been said on why actors in fat suits are harmful on so MANY different levels but even at the very basic, surface level. This is one more fat person getting shut out.”

“Sarah Paulson could have done a dozen different roles in this and would have slayed as she often does,” one Twitter user said, adding, “There are so few opportunities for actors who aren’t Hollywood’s Preferred Physique & plenty of actors out there who could have killed this role without putting on a fat suit.”

“GLOW” breakout Britney Young also chimed in, writing, “I guess fat suits need work more then fat actors. That’s gotta be the reason, right?”

Based on former New Yorker writer Jeffrey Toobin’s book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President”, “Impeachment” is set to tackle the affair between Lewinsky and former president Bill in the late ’90s that captivated the nation. The scandal ultimately led to the president’s impeachment. After being impeached for not telling the truth about his affair with Lewinsky in December 1998, Bill was eventually acquitted by the senate in February 1999.

'Sweet Tooth' Offers First look at DC Universe's Hybrid Post-Apocalypse World in Teaser

    [embedded content]

In a surprising twist, the upcoming Netflix series is executive produced by Robert Downey, Jr., who is famously known as Iron Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his wife Susan Downey.

    Apr 30, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Netflix has shared the first teaser trailer for its upcoming DC Comics series, “Sweet Tooth”, for viewing pleasure. The newly-released video of the show, which is based on the DC Universe, gives a first look at its post-apocalypse world in which hybrid exists.

Opening the trailer, someone says in voiceover, “Some stories start at the beginning. Ours begin here,” as a scene of a dad finding out that his baby is a half-human and half-deer flickers on the screen before it is revealed that the hybrid baby is only one among hundred others. “No one knew which came first, the hybrid or the virus. But that question would become the biggest mystery of our lifetime.”

“This is a story about a very special boy. A boy we’d come to know as Sweet Tooth,” the narrator introduces as a young boy with deer horns makes an entrance. A man, seemingly Sweet Tooth’s dad, can be heard warning Sweet Tooth, who is attacked in another scene of the teaser, that “some bad people are still out there,” adding, “They don’t like you because you’re different. … You have to be brave.”

The official synopsis of the eight-episode show reads, “Ten years ago ‘The Great Crumble’ wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids — babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie).”

“Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers- about Gus’ origins, Jepperd’s past, and the true meaning of home. But their story is full of unexpected allies and enemies, and Gus quickly learns the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined,” it continues.

The series is based on a DC comic, which ran from 2009 through 2013, created by Jeff Lemire. In a surprising twist, “Sweet Tooth” is executive produced by Robert Downey Jr., who is famously known as Iron Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his wife Susan Downey.

Fellow executive producer Jim Mickle says of the series, “We wanted to make a show that offers escape and adventure, where nature is reclaiming the world and in many ways it feels like a fairytale.”

” ‘Sweet Tooth’ is a new kind of dystopian story, it’s very lush and hopeful. We want people to come into this world where there’s beauty and hope and adventure. This is a sweeping story – we ride on trains, climb mountaintops, run through forests. This is a show about what makes a family, what home really means, and why it’s important to keep faith in humanity,” he added.

Also starring on the series are Adeel Akhtar (“Murdered by My Father”), Aliza Vellani (“Upload”), Stefania LaVie Owen (“Krampus”), Dania Ramirez (“Once Upon a Time”), Neil Sandilands (“The Flash”) and Will Forte (“MacGruber”). Meanwhile, James Brolin is tapped to be the show’s narrator.

“Sweet Tooth” is set to arrive in June on Netflix.

Heather Thomson Claims She's 'Assaulted' During 'RHONY' Season 13 Filming

    Instagram

Sharing details about the alleged incident, the reality TV star says, ‘People were interested in putting me down, dragging me down and showing me who is the queen bee.’

    Apr 30, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Heather Thomson made a bombshell revelation regarding her exit from “The Real Housewives of New York City” season 13. During her appearance on “Friends of Dorothy” podcast, Heather revealed why she decided to exit the show, hinting that she was “assaulted” by a “queen bee.”

“I get assaulted this season,” the 51-year-old reality TV personality, who infamously exited season 13 after she stopped filming the show following a “messy” exchange with Leah McSweeney, shared. “The show has changed a lot, breaking the fourth wall.”

Sharing details about the alleged incident, she went on to say, “People were interested in putting me down, dragging me down and showing me who is the queen bee. I just don’t have time for that stuff. It’s the new girl who was intimidated and wanted to show who’s the queen bee.” While Heather didn’t name names in her revelations, people believe that Leah was the one who assaulted her.

      See also…

Prior to this, a source offered more insight into the alleged altercation. Speaking with Us Weekly, the source shared, “Heather’s popular history with the old cast and the excitement about new cast member Eboni K. Williams prompted production to maneuver [Heather’s] return.”

The insider added, “Shortly after she arrived, Leah and Heather butt heads. Heather could see Leah was acting up for the cameras and using behavior she considered demeaning and exploitative and frankly, crossed a line. Heather wanted no part of Leah so after she left that weekend Heather had no interest in continuing the season at all and stopped filming.”

In response to reports that she “chased” Heather away from the show, Leah appeared to address her feud with Heather in a now-deleted Instagram post. “I don’t like women who slut shame other women,” she wrote back in March. “Act morally superior to other women. Plastic surgery shame other women. Gossip about other women doing drugs when you know damn well they’ve done drugs also. And lastly I don’t like when white women call black women ‘articulate’. Especially while acting like the queen of wokeness.”

Back to the podcast, Heather also said that she was involved in an argument with the other ladies including Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan. “My podcast comes up on the show and it’s totally taken out of context. They kept accusing me of talking s**t behind their backs. They said that I was saying Luann was doing a lot of drugs which I didn’t say,” she divulged.

Lena Headey Working on 'Scary Stories for Young Foxes' TV Series

    WENN

The former ‘Games of Thrones’ actress is adapting the popular 2019 children’s book by Christian McKay Heidicker into an animated television mini-series.

    Apr 30, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actress Lena Headey is tackling the horror genre with an animated adaptation of popular 2019 children’s book “Scary Stories for Young Foxes”.

The “Game of Thrones” star will lend her voice to the planned miniseries, based on the coming-of-age story by Christian McKay Heidicker, which she will co-executive produce for her Peephole Productions firm.

Heidicker will also serve as a producer on the project, which is being developed with officials at Boat Rocker Studios.

“During our first meeting at Boat Rocker I was asked what I was interested in and we started talking about horror for kids, how there is a space for this, and not to shy away from putting stuff out there that’s dark and smart,” Headey shared in a statement issued to Deadline.

      See also…

“Kids aren’t daft, they know when we’re holding back the scary bits, so I’m so happy to be part of a great team to bring Christian’s book to life in a way that feels authentic.”

Added the author, “I’m beyond thrilled at the prospect of (characters) Mia and Uly romping onto TV screens to chill a wider audience with the importance of scary stories.”

“I was worried that my book would be declawed – the scariest bits removed for sensitive viewers – but I’m convinced that Boat Rocker Studios and the gravitational Ms. Headey will elevate this project to a place of spooky sophistication.”

“Scary Stories for Young Foxes” features intertwining horror tales told to the young lead characters by an older fox.
