AceShowbiz – Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has officially signed on to direct Disney’s live-action remake of “Pinocchio“.
The “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump” director will also co-write the latest adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s story about the puppet who becomes a real boy.
Sam Mendes and Paul King were both previously attached to the project. King stepped down at the beginning of last year 2019.
Tom Hanks was in talks to portray Pinocchio’s carpenter creator Geppetto in the film, but it is unclear if the project is moving forward with the Oscar-winning star of Zemeckis’ “Forrest Gump”, “Cast Away“, and “The Polar Express“.
The live-action movie is not the only Pinocchio project in the works – Guillermo del Toro has teamed up with Netflix bosses to make his animated feature film directing debut with a revamped version of the story.
