Good Morning Britain viewers were surprised to see an argument play out on their screens this morning, as guests Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce failed to see eye-to-eye.
Joining hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh on the show, the news experts appeared on the show via video call to discuss the latest in current affairs.
However, when the conversation turned to Brexit and the UK’s trade deals with the EU, things took a tense turn – forcing Ranvir to intervene.
It all started when Andrew claimed Europe needed to accept the value of trade with the UK, saying: “Perhaps when they realise that the trade they do with Britain is far bigger for them than it is for us, they’ll sit down and sign on the dotted line.”
Suddenly, Kevin spat: “Andrew, Open your eyes!”
When Kevin tried to make his point, Andrew continually shouted over him, drowning out the conversation with a fiery rebuttal.
Andrew hit back: “No, I keep my eyes open Kevin, you seem to forget there was a referendum and the British people voted to leave.”
Scoffing at his response, Kevin replied: “Cling to that. Cling to that.”
Andrew asked: “What do you mean cling to it? It’s important.”
Kevin finished: “All of the arguments four years ago have been proved to be untrue. That’s what it is.”
Presenter Ranvir resorted to eating a giant trifle in an effort to calm the duo down, as she held up the sugary dessert and faced the camera.
She exclaimed: “You know what Kevin and Andrew, this conversation is making me crave comfort food.”
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers were floored by the explosive argument, as they took to their keyboards to weigh in on the debate.
One fumed: “Wow. Not even 7am and already people are arguing #gmb.”
A second snapped: “Them two need to go!”
“After some relative harmony around the coronavirus pandemic @Kevin_Maguire and @toryboypierce lock horns again over Brexit,” chimed a third.
However, a fourth praised the pair for asking the bigger questions about Brexit, writing: “I love watching these two. Don’t always agree with either of them, but am always interested to hear their opinions.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
