Former EastEnders star Jake Wood says a ghost has been haunting Lily Allen ’s dressing room at the Noel Coward Theatre.
The actor, 49, and the singer, 36, are currently starring in the petrifying play 2:22 A Ghost Story.
And while the pair have been acting out other-worldly goings on in the West End, the spirit of Sir Charles Wyndham – who built the iconic theatre in the early 1900s – has been spookily paying a visit to Lily’s dressing room.
Jake said: “Apparently, the Noel Coward Theatre is haunted.
“The guy that built it, Charles Wyndham, still haunts the stage.
“If you see him he walks across the stage and goes into the dressing room downstairs, which is fine because that’s Lily Allen’s dressing room.
“So I’m not worried about that.
“As long as he stays in there, it’s all good.
“No one in this cast has seen him yet.”
But Jake and Lily – who is making her professional stage debut in the production – don’t just have ghosts to worry about at the theatre.
The pair and their co-stars have been told to put any food into boxes to ensure their grub doesn’t get chowed down by mice.
Jake said: “It’s full of mice, not that I’ve seen any.
“But we have to keep our food in food boxes.
“There’s no glamour, no glamour backstage.”
Lily has been getting incredible reviews since stepping on the stage for the first time as the character Jenny.
Kate Wyver of The Guardian said in her four-star review: “You wouldn’t know this is Allen’s first time acting in the West End,” adding: “It’s in her moments of stillness that the fear best finds its way in.”
Speaking of her new gig, Lily told BBC News: “I’m riding a wave of excitement and terror, which is pretty constant.
“But it’s just really nice to be here in this theatre and be one of the first things that people have been coming to see after the weird year-and-a-half we’ve had.”
