Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been dealt another blow as it’s reported their Emmy award category isn’t expected to be televised at all.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a CBS primetime special where they made bombshell allegations against Buckingham Palace and other royals in March.
Their explosive chat has been nominated for an Emmy award in the category of Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.
However, the royals may suffer another knockback as it’s likely it won’t be shown on TV during the award show – even if they win, reports The Express.
The programme which first aired on March 7 earlier this year, is up against four other nominees; Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy; David Letterman’s Netflix show – My Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman; United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell; and Showtime’s Vice.
But the Sussexes may not get their time in the spotlight during the show, with the website of the International Documentary Association explaining: “Next to the Oscars, the Emmys are the most prestigious awards in Hollywood.
“Everyone has seen the Emmys on television but the Emmy broadcast shows only a small number of the actual awards.”
Due to the high number of categories, this award isn’t expected to be handed out live on air and instead will be given days before the ceremony.
It’ll then be covered in a fast recap during the televised awards, rather than on the night in a highly-anticipated broadcast.
There has been a mixed reaction among royal fans since the news of the Emmy nomination earlier this week.
Many Meghan and Harry fans were overjoyed by the news, claiming it was “well deserved” and one Twitter user was happy it’d “p**s off Brits”.
Others have hit back sarcastically saying it is not a surprise and allege the couple are being awarded for their ‘acting’ during the special.
However, some followers claimed that the interview was not fictionalised.
One replied: “The Oprah interview was well-handled and sparked a lot of conversations, watched by millions.”
Some praised the tell-all, tweeting: “They all deserve their flowers for having the courage to speak their truth.”
The Crown, Netflix’s dramatised show on the Royal Family, is up for 24 nominations at the Emmy’s, and ties with The Mandalorian for the most nominations of any show.
The Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 19 at 8pm ET on CBS.
