EastEnders in yet another schedule shake-up for BBC Olympics coverage

If you were hoping that the EastEnders’ schedule would settle down after the Euro 2020 championship you were very much mistaken.

Just as one summer tournament ends another one begins and this time it’s the greatest and oldest of them all, the Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics is a matter of days away after it was sadly postponed in 2020 due to the global Covid pandemic.

While the opening ceremony will be held on Friday, July 23, the first event won’t begin until July 24 after a year-long delay.

This means EastEnders’ fans can expect to see disruptions to the usual soap schedule from Monday, July 26.

Instead of the usual time slots on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday the programme will instead go out after 9pm, reports The Sun.

The first show on Monday (July 26) will go out at 9.05pm, then Tuesday and Thursday episodes will kick off at 9pm, before returning to 9.05pm on the Friday.

The BBC hopes that fans won’t be left too disappointed though as all the week’s episodes will be available on iPlayer to binge-watch until the end of August.

In a similar vein to the Euros, the BBC will drop all four episodes for the week on Monday morning until the Olympic Games have finished.

The weeks’ worth Eastenders episodes will be available each Monday morning at 6am, starting on July 26.

An Eastenders spokesperson said: “Since the start of Euro 2020, EastEnders have been dropping all episodes on iPlayer for the first time ever on Monday’s giving the audience the choice to watch when and where they choose so it’s no surprise that the overnight audience is impacted.”

In the soap recently, Gray Atkins looks like he may be targeting his next victim after he attended a 40th birthday drinks at the pub and got blind drunk.

After knocking back too many glasses, he confronted his boss Sarah Paul, played by Laura Awoyinka, who he believes doesn’t like him and won’t promote him to partner at the law firm.

Later on, he fell over a table and onto the floor, with Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) removing him out of the party after becoming embarrassed by his boozing antics.

Fans were convinced he would target his boss Sarah next, after noticing a sinister look in his eye as he gazed at her.
