Where Prison Break cast are now – Top Gear fame, split skull and family tragedy

It’s been 16 years since Prison Break first hit TV screens all over the world.

The iconic US drama brought the story of Michael Scofield to life, after he got himself purposely thrown behind bars in order to rescue his brother Lincoln, who was stuck on Death Row for a crime he didn’t commit.

Since then, the series went from strength to strength – although its original run ended after season four, with Michael seemingly dead, the show and its main character were revived for a fifth series back in 2017.

It’s even inspired its own video game, a manga and even a live show, which toured countries including the UK from 2006 to 2008.

The series had its own mobile phone based spin-off in 2006 called Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, which revolves around the conspiracy that originally landed Lincoln in jail.

But, as Wentworth Miller celebrates his 49th birthday, we take a look at where he and the rest of the cast have ended up since the show wrapped.

Though he revived his iconic character back in 2017, English-born Wentworth has since vowed he is not up for any more Prison Break.

It comes as he said playing straight characters after publicly coming out as gay in 2013 feels like a “dead end”.

Posting to his Instagram page, Wentworth said: “I’m out. Of PB. Officially. Not because of static on social media (although that has centred the issue).

“I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told).

“I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry. If you’re hot and bothered [because] you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one… That’s your work.” He ended the post with a Pride flag emoji.

Wentworth originally came out to fans when he declined an invite to a Russian film festival due to the “current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government.”

He’s continued his LGBTQIA+ advocacy into the current day, and uses his Hollywood roots to be a powerful voice for the community.

Since leaving the show, Wentworth has starred as a series regular in both DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash as Leo Snart – a gay superhero married to Being Human’s Russell Tovey, who plays Ray Terrill.

Wentworth has also appeared in shows like Madam Secretary, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and feature films Resident Evil: Afterlife and The Loft, as well as becoming a successful screenwriter.

The actor has always been candid about his struggles with depression, which at one point led him to become suicidal, citing his mental health battle had cost him “time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights.”

He’s notoriously private about his personal life, but has been rumoured to be dating fellow actor Luke Macfarlane.

Lincoln Burrows – Dominic Purcell

Known best as Michael’s hot-headed brother Lincoln, Dominic Purcell went on to star alongside Wentworth in Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash as Mick Rory.

The two remain close pals, with Dominic regularly saying Wentworth is “like a brother” to him on his social media channels.

He also joined Wentworth for the season five revival of Prison Break – but it wasn’t without its hardships, as Dominic suffered a brutal on-set injury.

He posted a blood-soaked selfie to his Instagram account earlier this year, explaining: “Whilst filming #PrisonBreak 5. An iron bar fell 10 feet, splitting my skull and breaking/shattering my nose in four places (no, it’s not makeup).

“Point is, I recovered, got back to work in two weeks (my head and face a mess, really). JUST LIVE BEST YA CAN AND HANG IN!”

One of the gashes on his head required a whopping 150 stitches, while he also got 20 stitches in his left elbow, some in his nose and near his left eyebrow.

He told Deadline at the time: “Physically, I’m fine. The accident was shocking, more than anything else.

“It was a scene where I was running into the prison, and I felt this extraordinary explosion on my head that I’d never experienced. […] I dropped to my knees, and I was in shock.”

He’s also been engaged in an on-again-off-again relationship with 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord, after they initially dated from 2011 to 2014.

The pair rekindled their romance in 2015 after Dominic experienced a skin cancer scare, but split for a second time in 2018.

During lockdown last year, the pair got together once again, but it’s unclear whether they’re still dating.

They’ve been pictured several times engaged in PDA – in September, the duo were papped together enjoying some time on the beach, with AnnaLynne looking stunning in a strappy purple bikini and Dominic beside her in swim trunks.

Sara Tancredi – Sarah Wayne Callies

Known equally for starring as Dr Sara Tancredi in Prison Break and later as Lori Grimes in AMC horror series The Walking Dead, Sarah has continued her acting career well past her appearance in series five of Prison Break.

Sarah’s character was best known for her addiction issues and romance with Michael, which culminated in them getting married and having a son together.

Her Walking Dead character was killed off in season three from complications in childbirth.

Sarah has had main roles in shows including Colony and The Long Road Home, as well as appearing in films like The Show and The Other Side of the Door in recent years.

The 43-year-old actress has been married to Josh Winterhalt since July 2002; the couple have two children together, a son and a daughter.

She came out in support of Wentworth when he ruled out a Prison Break return, taking to Instagram to share a snap of them together with the caption: “Yesterday @wentworthmiller announced he’s done playing Michael Scofield because as a gay man he wants to focus on playing gay characters.

“With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, i’m voicing my support for that choice.”

She continued: “To all the fans, know this: the cast of Prison Break is a queer friendly space. we stand with – and among – our friends & family in the LGBTQ+ community with full throated support for their rights and artistic work. all the time. always.

“And if that’s a problem for anyone, to quote a good man, ‘that’s your work.’”

During lockdown restrictions last year, Sarah announced she’d written a podcast starring herself, Stranger Things star David Harbour and The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan as voices.

Entitled Aftershock, the narrative podcast wrapped in June 2020, but hasn’t yet been released.

Theodore Bagwell – Robert Knepper

Robert Knepper played love-to-hate-him baddie T-Bag

Known best as notorious killer and pervert T-Bag in Prison Break, actor Robert Knepper has gone on to star in numerous hit projects since bidding farewell to the Fox show.

But he wasn’t quite done with the programme – he came back with Wentworth, Dominic and Sarah for series five – before ending up back in prison again – and lent his voice to the 2010 video game Prison Break: The Conspiracy.

He’s been in everything from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay to American Horror Story, as well as taking up regular roles in shows like Homeland and iZombie.

But he hasn’t been without controversy – he’s been hit with sexual misconduct claims from numerous women, though no charges were ever brought.

He issued a statement in 2017 which read: “We have come to a time where hard-earned careers are being lost on the basis of accusations. I need to reiterate that these accusations against me are false.”

The alleged assaults are said to have taken place between 1983 and 2013.

The CW, the network Robert was involved with at the time, conducted an internal inquiry into the allegations but found no evidence of misconduct transpiring on the set. Another investigation continued in 2018 and found “no wrongdoing”.

He is currently married to Nadine Kary after his divorce from Tory Herald in 2009. He has a son, Benjamin, with his first wife.

Fernando Sucre – Amaury Nolasco

Many Prison Break fans were left disappointed when Puerto Rican actor Amaury Nolasco only appeared briefly in series five.

But he’s been busy outside of the Fox show, including roles in the 2007 flick Transformers and TV shows like Southland and Chase.

A keen golfer, Amaury hosted celebrity golf tournament Amaury Nolasco & Friends Golf Classic in Puerto Rico back in 2011, with profits going to various Puerto Rican charities including Univeristy of Puerto Rico Pediatric Hospital.

It’s believed the actor is currently single, though he has had relationships in the past with Jennifer Morrison and Andrea Pambechy.

Amaury was hit with tragedy in 2010 when his sister Deborah, who he called his “light”, passed away. She was just 33 and died unexpectedly after suffering from a heart condition in childhood.

Alexander Mahone – William Fichtner

William Fichtner has had several huge roles

William ‘Bill’ Fichtner, who played FBI-agent-gone-rogue Alexander Mahone in Prison Break, might actually be best known for several roles he starred in years before his appearance in season two of the Fox show.

He starred as Flanagan in hit film Crash with Sandra Bullock and Thandie Newton, and as Colonel Willie Sharp in Armageddon alongside Bruce Willis.

In his TV career, Bill is best known for playing Sheriff Tom Underlay in Invasion, as well as his portrayal of Adam Janikowski in Mom.

He’s also lent his voice to various video games, including the Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty franchises.

In 2017 it was announced that Bill would take up the role as host for Top Gear America alongside drag racer Antron Brown and car journalist Tom Ford, on which he insisted 1965-1970 was the “best era for cars”, citing his love for “classic muscle cars”.

The star has been married twice – first to Betsy Aidem from 1987 to 1996, before tying the knot with Kymberly Kalil in 1998.

He has two children.

Brad Bellick – Wade Williams

Bellick was definitely a baddie when he first showed up as a prison officer in series one of Prison Break, but by the time his death came around in series four, fans had definitely forgiven his misdeeds as he sacrificed himself for the rest of the team.

Wade also starred in the video game spin-off, along with Robert Knepper.

And actor Wade Williams hasn’t let his Prison Break death stop him.

Since leaving the show, he’s been in everything from Westworld to Elementary, along with appearing in films like The Dark Knight Rises and Gangster Squad.

But the star actually began his acting career in a rather strange way – he appeared in a theatre production of The Taming of the Shrew at the Delacourte Theatre, alongside Morgan Freeman and Tracey Ullman.

Bizarrely, he’s even appeared in the music video for Anastacia’s Welcome to My Truth.

Wade is married to Emma Williams, and the pair have a daughter together.
