Aljaz Skorjanec set to be replaced on Strictly Come Dancing by 'Italian hunk'

After the shock announcement that Aljaz Skorjanec was leaving Strictly Come Dancing after the last series, it’s believed that show bigwigs have lined up an “Italian hunk” to replace him.

Pro dancer Pasquale La Rocca, who stars in Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars and has won the coveted glitterball three times.

The 32-year-old was also in the Belgian version of the franchise.

A source has revealed that Strictly producers have come up with a “wish list” of favourites and Pasquale is at the top – if he can be “prised away” from the Irish show.

The source added to The Mirror: “He is super-talented and an exciting prospect.”

Pasquale won’t be the first dancer to be lured to Strictly. Last year Kai Widdrington moved from Dancing with the Stars to the BBC1 show.

And the Italian, who has been dancing since the age of nine, has already hinted he may be ready to make the big move.

He said: “When you are part of the DWTS market around the world, of course you are seen and spotted by other countries. You have to leave and go to another place.”

He added: “I don’t know what is going to happen. But I’m a big fan of the Dancing With The Stars franchise. I haven’t stopped moving since I started in 2019, and I will keep going.”

Meanwhile, Aljaz penned an emotional farewell to the show that had been home for nine years.

“On a beautiful sunny day in May 2013 one phone call changed my life forever!

“It went like this… We would like to offer you a position on @bbcstrictly as a professional dancer. A dream became a reality and it was the biggest opportunity for a 23-year-old boy from Slovenia.

“It didn’t matter how many beautiful ballrooms I performed in during my competitive career, stepping onto the sacred Strictly floor was the most nervous I had ever been.”

Aljaž, who is married to fellow dancer Janette Manrara, went on to say that he made the decision that the series would be his last “a little while ago”.

The statement finished: “And finally, thank YOU, the people that watch Strictly who have been so kind to me all these years. Every comment, vote, kind message never went unnoticed. You are the reason we all do it, thank you!

“I have lots of exciting stuff planned that I will fill you in on soon. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! KEEEEEP DANCING!”
