It’s not looking good for Coronation Street’s Gary Windass next week, as he risks returning to prison amid the potential discovery of Rick Neelan’s body.
Gary murdered the loan shark in tense scenes before hiding the body – and only his wife Maria Connor knows about the killing, though ex Sarah Platt had her own suspicions.
Next week, the private investigator hired by Rick’s ex Laura fires some difficult questions at Gary about his dealings with Rick.
Over in the Rovers Return, Laura knocks back her morphine tablets, admitting she’s only ever let Kelly down in her life. As she stumbles out of the pub, Gary comes to her rescue, but is left panicked to realise she’s been drinking on top of the cancer medication.
Later, nurse Aggie lets it slip that Laura has been drinking on top of taking morphine, leaving Kelly furious.
She brands her the most selfish mother in the world, and tells a devastated Laura that she wants her to move out. Gary, however, urges the youngster to cut her mum some slack and make the most of the time she has left with her.
Laura is clearly taken aback by his behaviour, and tells Gary she wants him to become Kelly’s legal guardian – as he’s proved to be more of a dad to her than Rick ever was. But will Gary accept?
Things go from dark to worse as Maria shows Gary a picture of the new site for County’s new training ground, which she has succeeded in moving because of her environmental campaign.
However, he’s horrified to discover that it’s in the exact spot he shifted Rick’s body to.
He later informs a worried Maria that he plans to move the body, as the private investigator informs Laura he’s had no luck tracking down Rick.
All the evidence suggests he’s dead, and the prime suspect in his murder is Gary. Laura is left reeling.
Gary, meanwhile, attempts to break into the building site, but his progress is interrupted by a security guard. Contemplating his fate, Laura confronts Gary.
With the pressure mounting, will Gary finally admit to murdering Rick?
Meanwhile, Maria is dealing with her own problems, nominating Kelly for the Trainee Stylist of the Year award at the North West Hairdressing Awards – leaving her gobsmacked.
But Phill informs Maria that he plans to turn her campaign for councillor around – and has enlisted Kirk in his Buzzer the bee campaign.
He produces a confidential report confirming the council are busy covering up the dangers of local air pollution.
But, after casting their votes at the polling station and posing for photos, Maria is wracked with guilt as Phill risks losing his job over the leaked report – and Kirk has already been sacked as County’s mascot.
Was her plan worth it?
