Coronation Street legend Bill Roache has revealed he “fancied” the Queen when he met her.
The soap stalwart has met the monarch eight times over the years and admitted he took rather a shine to her.
According to The Sun, he spoke out in Happy Birthday Bill, a new documentary celebrating the actor as he prepares to turn 90.
“I first met her when I was 21 and I was in the Army and we had the day with her which was very nice,” he said.
“I really fancied her! I don’t know if that’s heresy but she was very attractive.”

Bill’s comments tickled viewers, with one joking on Twitter: “Three mins into Happy Birthday Bill and Bill Roache has admitted to fancying the Queen. This is what John Logie Baird invented the television for.”
The actor was photographed with the royal last year, when she visited the set of Corrie to celebrate 60 years of the soap.
The Queen, who will be 95 this year, was shown around the show and was snapped meeting the star outside the iconic Rovers Return pub.

He even hailed the monarch for “carrying on” for the public amid the Covid-19 pandemic, while his co-star Barbara Knox – best known for playing Rita in the long-running soap – praised her for “bringing the sunshine” to the cobbles.
Bill is one of Corrie’s original cast members and has been playing Ken since 1960.
As the special aired, viewers said they were stunned by how “amazing” he looked for his age and confessed they couldn’t get over the fact he was turning 90.
“I’ll have a pint of what Bill Roache has had for the last 90 years,” one person tweeted.

“In the history of TV and film 90 year olds #BillRoache has to be the dishiest and most switched on I’ve ever seen,” gushed another fan, adding: “90 incredible!!!”
Another viewer posted: “Bill Roache is 90? No way! He looks bloody amazing! And he seems a real gent too!”
“I swear Ken Barlow hasn’t changed in 30 years,” said another fan.
