Doctor Who and EastEnders star Ann Davies dies aged 87 as tributes pour in

Doctor Who and EastEnders star Ann Davies has tragically passed away aged 87.

The veteran actress, who also starred in Grange Hill, was the wife of late The Good Life star Richard Briers.

She was also a mother to ITV Endeavour’s star Lucy Briers and daughter Katie.

Ann’s agent, Barry Langford, announced the actress died on Wednesday in a sweet public statement shared on Thursday (April 28).

The statement read said: “Sadly my lovely client of 34 years Ann Davies passed away yesterday.

“A superb actress with TV credits including #DoctorWho and #TheSculptress, Ann was devoted to her beloved late husband #RichardBriers and their daughters Lucy and Kate.

Ann starred as Jenny in the BBC’s sci-fi series Doctor Who in the 1960s

“She will be very much missed. #RIP Annie”.

Fans of Anne paid their own tributes to the star on Twitter, with one writing: “Britain has lost another leading star,”

A second said: “Superstar in a legendary Dr Who adventure, and she’ll never be forgotten by the fans! Those episodes get rewatched a lot in my house,”

A third commented: “May she rest in peace. She was such a star,”.

Ann appeared as Jenny in Doctor Who in the 1960s, when William Hartnell played the famed TV Time Lord.

She also starred as Mrs Singleton in the BBC’s secondary school drama Grange Hill in the 1990s.

The actress also starred alongside her husband in the films Peter’s Friends (1992) and Bleak Midwinter (1995).

Ann and Richard also acted together in the radio adaptation of the TV series Brothers in Law.

The couple lived in Chiswick, West London before Richard passed away aged 97 in 2013.

Richard had been diagnosed with emphysema six years before his death.

Their daughter Lucy followed her parents into the acting business, where she’s starred in the likes of ITV’s detective show Endeavour, as well as The Bill and Silent Witness.

Lucy also took on the role of Mary Bennet in the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
