Emmerdale's Meena Jutla begs sister Manpreet to help her in unexpected courtroom twist

The trial of Emmerdale serial killer Meena Jutla took a bizarre turn in tonight’s episode, as she begged for help from sister Manpreet Sharma – despite having tried to kill her in the past.

A shocked Meena was heard screaming, “Manpreet do something. Help me. Please Manpreet. Help me Manpreet,” as her sister watched Meena led out of court after receiving a sentence of 75 years to life for her crimes.

Meena had previously arrived in the court to face sentencing but appeared rattled when she realised that Manpreet was not there to witness the end of the dramatic trial in the ITV soap.

Looking unremorseful in the courtroom, her arrogance turned to surprise as the judge passed the sentence, leaving the villain in shock saying: “No, no, no, this isn’t right.”

Despite having admitted her guilt to the crimes, Meena appeared surprised that she would be sentenced for the murders and turned to see Manpreet finally arrive in the room.

In a last desperate attempt, Meena begged for help from her sister – who instead walked away as the voice of Liam Cavanagh could be heard talking to victim Leanna Cavanagh over the scenes, saying: “Meena stole you from me. My everything. Stole you from so many of us.”

He added: “We’re ready to heal now.”

It drew to a close a dramatic series of events that saw Meena murder three victims in the village, including Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker, before her crimes were finally exposed.

After standing trial, the judge later told Meena: “I have seen no genuine remorse from you.

“You are a manipulative person who has told many lies, shifted the blame to try and save your own skin, if you weren’t so malignant you would be pitiful.”

The trial also saw the character take the court, including Manpreet hostage, in an act the judge described as: “A desperate last attempt to feel important”

As Liam’s voice faded, scenes of a quiet and peaceful village were shown on screen, before Meena finally broke down in tears in her jail cell, begging once more saying: “Is there anyone there? Just don’t ignore me. Please don’t ignore me.”

However, whether the storyline has now drawn to a close is yet to be decided – with many fans still convinced that this will not be the last we have seen from Meena Jutla.

One fan took to social media to say: “Maybe she’ll escape,” with a second adding: “Is her escape the plan for #Emmerdale50?”

A third commented: “Please don’t say she will pop up in October during the anniversary week by maybe escaping prison.”

Will Meena escape and return to take revenge on the village, including sister Manpreet? Viewers will have to wait and see.
