The village of Emmerdale could see further tragedy next week, as Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) collapses – sparking fears he could be killed off.
Rishi has had a lot on his plate recently, with his ex-wife Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) being kidnapped by her sister Meena (Paige Sandhu) and held hostage, before being hit by a car. With Manpreet still in hospital, Rishi is forced to support both her and still-recovering daughter Priya (Fiona Wade) after the havoc Meena wreaked on their lives.
But for Rishi’s son Jai (Chris Bisson), things are similarly boiling to a pressure point, as his financial struggles are set to get worse next week.
Spoilers have revealed that while Kim is planning to oust Jai and partner Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) from their home, Laurel is left distraught while Jai is busy concocting a way out.
Gabby (Rosie Bentham) is left fuming when Kim tells her Jai suggested she should sell Brook Cottage instead – which would leave her mum Bernice homeless.
Soon, Jai and Laurel are planning to attempt to buy Mulberry Cottage from Kim instead.
His sister Priya is less than pleased when Jai tells her and Rishi to sell Holdgate to give him access to further funds – and soon he finds himself being chastised by both Bernice and Priya for sneaking around with his underhanded tactics.
Proceedings are quickly interrupted, however, when Rishi collapses.
Later, Laurel demands to know what’s gone on between Jai and Priya, with Jai admitting he wants to sell the old house.
But when she suggests reaching out to the bank for a mortgage instead, Jai is determined to stall her – knowing they’ll be denied after he forged the loan application.
His partner is not to be deterred, however, as she heads to pick up a mortgage application – but panics when the bank tells her there is a problem due to her low credit score, brought on by the recent large loan she took out.
When confronted, Jai initially bluffs his way out of it, but just as Laurel is picking up the phone to report the fraud to the police, he interrupts to confess he was the one who took out the loan.
Laurel drops her mobile in shock and stares at Jai in total horror – and it’s clear that their relationship is about to hit a bump in the road which might derail them completely.
Laurel tells Jai to fix his life – and, though she still loves him, there’s no way she can forgive him, leaving Jai broken.
Will they be able to salvage their romance? And will Rishi’s collapse throw a further spanner in the works – or bring them closer together?
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
