Kate Moss' Johnny Depp testimony will 'blow up in Amber Heard's face', expert claims

British supermodel Kate Moss is set to take the stand in Johnny Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 48-year-old, who dated Johnny in the 90s, is expected to appear in court via video link on Wednesday, May 25 to give evidence against Amber, 36.

Kate is being called by Johnny’s legal team after Amber name-dropped her during her testimony earlier this month.

Kate famously prefers to keep her private life out of the spotlight, however, she is expected to shut down Amber’s claim that Johnny, 58, once pushed the model down the stairs.

Experts believe that Kate’s testimony could have a “big effect” on the jury.

Nicole Haff, an entertainment lawyer who works at Romano Law, believes Kate could bring Amber’s testimony into question.

She claimed it was a mistake on Amber’s part to mention Kate, as this gave Johnny’s team the opportunity to call her to the stand.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Nicole said: “When someone brings up something in their examination and [you feel] it’s wrong, you can basically call another witness to impeach that testimony.”

Johnny and Amber tied the knot in 2015.

They were married for just one year before Amber filed for divorce in 2016.

The $100million (£80m) defamation trial, which is underway in Virginia, is trying to determine if a 2018 Washington post article written by Amber defamed Johnny.

His lawyers say the article falsely implies he physically and sexually abused her while they were together. Johnny has denied all accusations.

During Amber’s testimony earlier this month, the actress alleged that Johnny shoved Kate down a flight of stairs.

She made the claim while discussing an argument she allegedly had with the Pirates of the Caribbean star at the top of a staircase.

Amber claimed her sister, Whitney Heard, stepped in between the pair.

She claimed: “She threw herself in the line of fire. She was trying to get Johnny to stop. Her back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her.

“I don’t hesitate and wait – I instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs and I swung at him.”

However, one source close to Johnny told the New York Post that he actually looked after Kate after she accidentally slipped down some stairs in Jamaica.

Kate has never publicly accused Depp of hurting her.

Nicole believes that if Kate debunks Amber’s claims, it could impact the jury in Johnny’s favour, making them unable to trust what Amber says.

She said: “By bringing Kate Moss on to testify, she can obviously disprove [Heard’s claim] or bring Heard’s testimony into question, which generally has a big effect on the jury – if they can’t trust what she says.”

After Amber brought up the allegation, Johnny’s legal team could be seen appearing to be celebrating over the opportunity to bring Kate in to testify.

Christa Ramey, a cofounder of the civil-litigation firm Ramey Law PC, told Insider that Amber may have gone against her legal team’s wishes when she name-dropped Kate.

She said: “Sometimes, I’ve had clients that think they’re smarter than me, who sometimes kind of go rogue on the stand.

“I think she definitely went that route. Her attorneys did not want her to say that.”

Kate’s testimony will come in the final weeks of the trial, with closing arguments expected on Friday.

The trial continues.
