Lorraine fans 'switch off' ITV's major format change for Phillip Schofield celebration

Fans of Lorraine were less than impressed with the show’s host as she showered Phillip Schofield in compliments over his extensive presenting career for an entire show.

Some viewers tweeted that they were “turning over” due to the apparent “love fest” that occurred on Lorraine Kelly’s programme after she celebrated Phillip’s 40 years in show-business.

Lorraine had previously been away from her morning chat show for a week and returned with a tribute to her ITV co-star.

Many fans were annoyed that their usual programme was disrupted, especially since Lorraine Kelly was missing from the previous show.

Lorraine took her annual half-term break and the programme was presented by Christine Lampard in her absence.

A shocked Phillip couldn’t believe his award

At the end of Good Morning Britain the programme cut to Lorraine, who was not in her studio where the programme usually takes place.

The 62-year-old was outside a dressing room in the ITV studios, ready to give an award to presenting titan Phillip Schofield with a large number 40.

59-year-old Phillip was amazed to see his friend at the door, excited to mark his milestone achievement.

His best pal Holly also came

The pair then sat together and discussed his four decade long career but many fans were disappointed that the hour-long show mainly focussed on Schofield’s life.

One disgruntled viewer tweeted out: “Lorraine this morning, just an appalling love fest and I guess it will continue for the rest of the morning. Yawn.”

A fan wrote: “Schofield on TV already? Okay, time to turn over. Even the kids’ TV before Jeremy Vine is more entertaining than this smug-fest on Lorraine.”

Phillip’s family made an appearance on the show

“I didn’t think the Lorraine programme could get any more nauseating than it already was. I was wrong,” quipped an irritated viewer while another said: “Forty years in any job is worthy of celebration but what an over indulgent tribute on Lorraine.”

Despite the negative backlash, some were happy with the show and tweeted out that they “enjoyed” the programme and congratulated him on his massive achievement.

One tweeted in congratulations: “I’m loving @lorraine today!! Congrats @Schofe!”

Another added: “@reallorraine Congratulations to @Schofe celebrating 40 years in TV & may it be 40 years more too.”

“I have actually enjoyed this hour with @Schofe… It’s nice ITV and #lorraine have celebrated his 40 years… a lot won’t agree but I’ve enjoyed it lol. Congratulations Phil!” a third fan sweetly echoed.

Co-star Holly Willoughby, his wife Stephanie Lowe and his daughter Molly all appeared on the show to sing their praises about the host.
