EastEnders fans have predicted that Mick and Linda Carter could rekindle their romance and head into the sunset together.
Actor Danny Dyer – who plays Mick – has confirmed that he is leaving the BBC soap.
And as tension seems to be easing between Mick and his ex Linda despite his dalliance with Janine (Charlie Brooks), viewers think they might patch things up.
“Mick will always love Linda, which is really making me wonder how Danny Dyer is going to leave??” one person tweeted as Wednesday’s instalment of the soap aired.
“It’s got to be with Linda or…”
Another posted: “You can tell whenever Mick is around Linda that he tries so hard to mask feelings. It’s only a matter of weeks before he gives in.”
The episode saw Linda (Kellie Bright) – who has battled a drinking problem – return to the Queen Vic.
And one sweet moment saw her and Mick having a private chat about her return.
The pair head out the back to talk and Mick checks with Linda whether she feels OK to be back behind the bar.
“I need to be working,” she tells Mick, as he continues to look worried.
Giving him a seductive stare, she whispers: “Maybe it’s you who can’t trust yourself around me.”
Fans are convinced it means the pair are going to get over their rocky patch.
“Love arrow launched by Linda,” one tweeted.
“If I was Linda I’d smack Janine,” joked another.
Danny has played Mick since 2013 but confirmed earlier this year that he would be waving goodbye to Albert Square.
An EastEnders spokesperson said in a statement at the time: “Danny will be leaving EastEnders when his contract comes to an end later this year.
“Danny has made Mick Carter an iconic character, which we shall always be grateful for, however we won’t be saying goodbye just yet as there’s still quite some time – and plenty of explosive drama for Mick – to come before he departs Walford.”
The actor promised fans that his final storyline will be “special”.
Speaking on his podcast, Sorted with the Dyers, alongside his daughter Dani Dyer, he said: “I am leaving EastEnders. I’m very lucky, I’m very grateful.”
He added: “When you’re in a job like a soap, your contract comes up for renewal and every time it has they’ve asked me to say, and I’m very grateful for that. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, it’s very tough.”
